No

>> No.13214225

Maybe.

Seriously though, I hope it is. I bought it and it is currently on a submarine that i am not on, but I've been itching to read it.

I don't understand the reverence for this book. It seemed pretty tacky to me.

I've only read Dune, but it would be pretty difficult to do much worse

Fuck no.

I read Dune when I was younger than when I read Hyperion. I liked Hyperion more but I have a really sneaking feeling I just didn't get Dune at all. Hyperion is pretty run of the mill sci-fi kitsch tone (which I find fun) but Dune had this mystical undertone which I just thought was cool

I'm in the navy and this book is on my submarine, packed away in my sea bag. I got off the submarine to attend some classes lol

Maybe.

Seriously though, I hope it is. I bought it and it is currently on a shortbus that i am not on, but I've been itching to read it.

I preferred hyperion but the quality varies with each pilgrims story whereas Dune is pretty consistent in the first book . As a series though, dune is longer and has more worthwhile books. Hyperion turns to pooh after book 2

>> No.13216819

The quality between the different stories in Hyperion varies greatly. I really dislike the framing narrative, it's constantly building up this mystery and then doesn't deliver. The great stories are great (the timetraveller and the priest for example) and there are a lot of interesting ideas in it. But as a whole it doesn't hold up for me. Also, what's with all the Keats references?

Dune on the other is a cohesive whole. It has a lot of great ideas and uses them to set up a world and a that's interesting and unique. What I never understood though is why near the end the story takes an absurd grar shift.

Yes.

the quality varies but i'd still say the lowest quality of Hyperion is at least equivalent, if not better

Especially better than the sequels

>> No.13218803

Dune is a phenomenal work of imagination and the most influential science fiction novel ever written.
Hyperion is just okay
