John Williams: Augustus
Robert Graves: I, Cladius and Claudius the God
Alan Massie: Caesar, Tiberius and Nero's Heirs

I've read nearly the entire thing, save the last book about Augustus.

I would consider it pretty good, I really enjoyed the detailed accounts of Roman life, and the vicissitudes of politics. Sure it wasn't accurate as regards the personalities of the historical people, however, and she took great liberties with certain figures like Spartacus. Still should definitely try the first book.
