Is /lit/ too hard on Stephen King?
Surely such a popular author must have some value in his work. What can we learn from studying Stephen King?

Never read a single Stephen King novel, desu. He's probably not that bad though

that, or it's suitable for the average mind

He's as good as houellebecq but he doesn't obsess over women and muslims so isn't to post2016 /lit/'s taste

Praise should be given for his work ethics, he wrote an outstanding amount and still is writing.
As for the quality of his work, from what I read, is mostly good but I would not include any of them in my top 10.

He doesn't write literary fiction. He writes books to be enjoyed by as many people as possible. He does it very well, sells many books and tells some interesting stories in entertaining ways. He obviously isn't Milton, but his work isn't bad.
Also, if you want a book rec, try The Stand, I enjoyed it

He has a book called On Writing. He literally teaches you how to write in a way that suits his audience, teaches you how to publish and goes over basic grammar. If you want to learn from him, read that.

He is the definition of a good, consistent writer. Nothing groundbreaking but you know exactly what you're getting. I think he's pretty based tbqh, despite his politics.

I just read On Writing. Found it pretty interesting and quite helpful.

I've read a couple of his novels, thought The Gunslinger was pretty good but the follow up bored me.

It's pretty amazing just how many books he's written which have gone on to be adapted to film. From Carrie to The Shining to The Green Mile to The Shawshank Redemption to Pet Sematary, etc.

People just seethe at his success and the ease of reading his work
