If you actually go find every mention of "stretch" in the Harry Potter novel series, you mainly see "hands outstretched" or "a handshake stretched." The only mention of "stretch his legs" comes once, in that exact form, but there are many like it for legs.

OP seems to be correct. I just scanned through the first book and only found one result:

>Mr. Dursley always sat with his back to the window in his office on the ninth floor. If he hadn't, he might have found it harder to concentrate on drills that morning. He didn't see the owls swooping past in broad daylight, though people down in the street did; they pointed and gazed open- mouthed as owl after owl sped overhead. Most of them had never seen an owl even at nighttime. Mr. Dursley, however, had a perfectly normal, owl-free morning. He yelled at five different people. He made several important telephone calls and shouted a bit more. He was in a very good mood until lunchtime, when he thought he'd stretch his legs and walk across the road to buy himself a bun from the bakery.

His mistake was starting with Harry Potter and the Outstretched Legs, which even diehard potterheads accept is aggressively mundane.

J.K. Rowling is a good writer. Look how quickly and neatly she establishes Uncle Vernon's character, hear how pleasant and simple the paragraph reads. It reminds me of a nice middlebrow short story you might find in the New Yorker, back when the New Yorker was good, I mean. I like Bloom but he can be a bit of a contrarian poseur, and inventing that anecdote about the envelope was immoral and disingenuous. It's amusing, but he's a professional critic; people take his words seriously. He has an obligation to be honest, and realizing that he lied was an incredible disappointment. He writes beautifully but he's also sort of a fraud, and I seriously wonder if he believes even half the things says.

constantly referring to his tribesman writers as ‘my close friend’

ranking Roth on the same plane as Pynchon + McCarthy is obscene

endorsing a god-awful nonfiction book on the basis that he liked its portrayal of the Zionist state

sad to say that he’s no better than the establishment he cries about for judging based on beliefs rather than aesthetic merit. desu, I think Wood is prob better than Bloom at this point. Shame
