When you gazt long into the abyss, the abyss also gazes into you. This is the moment when you realize meaninglessness. It's not knowledge, it is a state of consciousness. It is sunnyata for the Buddhists - emptiness. It's not a negative term; in fact it is the gateway of freedom. Also, every time I've seen people use the expressions "you can't really know anything" or "you can't explain existence" it's usually in a way to make me abandon my system of belief so I can accept theirs. It never means that they can't really know anything, it always means that I can't really know anything and that I should, for some reason, rethink my existence and ideally accept their point of view.
