Forget George R.R. Martin, Tolkien's LOTR and Silmarillion is so well poetically put together and detailed that it makes Game of Thrones world building look like garbage.

I don't like seeing Tolkien's work being reduced to its worldbuilding because it's so much more than that. There is a soul to it that reflects the authors philosophy and it is beautiful. Comparing it to Martin is disgusting because his work likewise reflects his soul, which is product of the 60's.

Tolkein was anti-tech. He would agree with Kaczynski. The whole idea with the ring of power and needing to destroy it was an allegory about the power of the forces unleashed by the industrial revolution and needing to destroy them. He talked a lot about his hatred of modern tech.

All political ideologies are shams, they just want to grab control over the industrial system to push other people around. The only solution is to dump the system.

The typically recommended order that I would also endorse is Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, Silmarillion, and then pick around at the other background materials as you see fit. If you're enjoying Children of Hurin on it's own, great, but it's an atypical place to start with Tolkien.
