Do you guys feel any smarter after reading a book? Do you feel that, for example, after reading a philosophy book or a book on politics that you've gained anything from it? Or is it just like watching a documentary, or a movie? Just something to pass the time. I sometimes think that one can be an equal to someone that reads book just by thinking about a certain idea for an amount of time or by life experience. thoughts?

I only read nonfiction so I learn ideas and add to my knowledge when I read.

It depends how you choose to experience it.

Some people watch movies critically, thinking about decisions like shot composition, editing, lighting, writing, how the presentation relates thematically to the message, and so on. This contemplation can lead to similar insights that you'd "expect" from reading a book.

It doesn't matter if you're reading a philosophy book or watching a movie. If you're not actively engaged with the media, you get less out of it.

You're happy after you jack off? Really? Most people feel dirty and empty after they ejaculate. Maybe during the act I could conceive of someone tricking themselves into feeling happy, but after. You must be a special kind of degenerate

I also learn by watching documentaries
I generally avoid fiction movies though, if I watch them for enjoyment I try to not let it distort my worldview

I don't watch things "to pass the time". Letting the time pass without progressing or genuine enjoyment is just walking closer to your death

Yes, Yes! YES!!! So many people don't know this, and it's reassuring to see here. Thank you.

I don't think books provide anything that I don't already know, but they help to put things into structure and new perspective, also providing source to appeal to authority
