I'm 24 years old and my handwriting never progressed beyond pic related (pulled off google images). my sentences are straighter but other than that my handwriting looks exactly like in the pic. I'm very embarrassed about it and I hate when other people see my handwriting.

I have the shittiest handwritting I know, by far. But yet it degenerated so bad that it gained new properties : it always transforms istelf and I'm the only one who can read it, it's like it codes itself without an effort, locking my diary desu without a lock.

yeah, I started by memorizing kana and writing the chart from memory repeatedly, and then I moved on to going through common kanji and their stroke orders. I've been told by class-taking friends that my hiragana containing こ look weird, so I'm not surprised the final た looks weird to you as well

When I was a kid my cursive was all fucked up, so I started taking notes in block letters.
Then in highschool I start noticing that it was easy to attach the letters in a cursive-like manner so this was the result of it: a fucked up cursive.
But a really readable one I think.

cola can pen is actually okay for gothic and similar styles. for classic calligraphy, you can try brushpens and even crayola markers ir you don't have a nib and ink
also, you can use a pencil, but that requires skill in applying pressure
as for paper, idk, get the densiest kind (the most g/m2) but not for watercolor

It's no chicken scratch but people do harp on it as illegible.
