I don’t think i said that, and i can’t be sure which post you’re referring to, but i assume it’s the one regarding the “twist”. I think Berserk has great structure, and i would agree that the impact of Griffith’s betrayal would hold more weight if it wasn’t spelled out in the first few volumes. That being said, even if you know that Griffith becomes the antagonist, you don’t know WHY for several volumes, which creates tension for a good long while. Finally seeing the “why” (Guts’s departure and later return, and Griffith’s physical incapacity via years of torture, rendering him invalid) successfully, in my opinion, creates tension in the reader nonetheless, knowing the outcome but not the details; this is what really makes the Eclipse so emotionally outstanding, finally realizing what has caused Guts’s (initially juvenile and angsty) rage so compelling
