No, I won't defend it. I like Bloom but he has bias problems with Christianity and traditionalism, and a very weird take on a lot of biblical matters, especially the gospels. He's a new york jew with a strong attachment to this background so that's to be expected.

Yes he said Judaism as we know it postdates Christianity and is based on the Talmud rather than the Tanakh, and that the Talmud functions to obscure the Tanakh

He also thinks the Tanakh (or some portions of it anyway) is powerful literature, but the NT is kitsch
