Why does this book have sentences with parentheses 3 times on the same page. I can't read the book because it keeps interrupting the flow of the writing. It doesn't even add anything to the story. Why would Bolaño do this??

The best decision I ever made was to give up reading any pomo shit besides Pynchon. It's all garbage written to make the reader and writer feel smart. It's a literary movement for soulless stemfags, by soulless stemfags.

Read Tolstoy

It means you have a low attention span, or arent smart enough to connect those types of sentences. Yikes.

If something doesn't add anything to the story in the first place, and if someone were to criticize it, don't just make reddit-tier comments that add nothing.

Bolaño's language is simple as fuck, man. His sentences arent even that complicated. If you're struggling with his prose you might want to read some Stephen King or James Patterson. very easy to handle sentences and nothing but straightforward plot.

I only read the first part which was so sinfully boring I decided that to continue would be an act of masochism.

Its not that the language is complicated. It's that the idea of having multiple worthless subideas that interrupt your immersion within the book. The title clearly says >because it keeps interrupting the flow of the writing. If you can't read the title Patterson may be to hard for you to read.

but they dont? the diversions are thematically within the narrative, and either way Bolaño's books are free form when it comes to the structure. maybe give us an example of what you're struggling to keep up with, because I dont ever remember being confused or too sidetracked when I did it, but then again I read it in spanish.

Thank you because if the diversions somehow relate to the theme you answered my question. I was originally confused why an author as good as Bolaño would create something that would take away from the flow from his work.If the diversions relate to the theme then it makes sense thank you. I will continue to read it.

Read the whole thing. You can do it. Once you're finished, it will become one of the best books you've ever read, i promise you.

this is like second level pseudery. third level is when you accept that pomo writers are moderately smart and have something to say and you just need to learn how to read them to uncover it

Dude,, there's nothing to learn about pomo books that can't be uncovered in a quick wiki search

Hehe I realized that halfway through the sentence and had to chuckle. It was actually fun to read.
