i mean i was bullied and i think it genuinely made me a better person. i was very annoying before i was heavily bullied for it. i think that the uniformity in which bullying is demonised might spill over into social corrective behaviours that children exhibit with themselves. ultimately, we will become very protected in social settings, but completely non-genuine, as there is no acceptable way to tell someone that they are out of line socially. i'm not pro-bully, persay, but i also do think that anti-bullying campagins might take down some good shit with it

Most of the kids that I saw being bullied in school were slightly odd, but non-threatening and weak, and didn't attempt to cause trouble for anyone else (rather trouble was constantly made for them). I knew a kid in middle school that was bullied very harshly. I spoke to him on occasion and he was nice. He asked me once if I would be his friend and I told him no. I still regret that all these years later and think about it sometimes. As to the point about physical abuse, I do recall someone slamming his head into a locker and giving him a concussion.

Uneven conflict is the nature of existence. The better you get at handling it, from either end of the experience, the better off you'll be in life. It's generally better to be the bigger kid, but everyone will be the smaller kid many times in their life. And being the smaller kid doesn't mean death. This is just an unbelievably important lesson to learn, and denying it to kids in the name of some trendy concept of what "Should" be or what's "good" fucks them up.
