ask heidegger: he says himself
ask wittgenstein: he's too shy to say himself but you know he thinks it
ask whitehead: you realize whitehead has already anticipated this question and you already know that there neither is, nor is not, a greatest philosopher of the 20th century possible because you were whitehead this whole time. holy shit wtf
ask deleuze:

>> No.12916521

surely not a low iq nazi so you can eliminate heidegger. im sure even nietzsche would hate him he would think he was too morbid.

FRIEDRICH NIETZSCHE WOULD HAVE DESPISED MARTIN HEIDEGGER, AND EVERYTHING NATIONALSOCIALISTIC, BECAUSE FRIEDRICH NIETZSCHE'S ETHOS WAS ANTITHETICAL TO THE ETHOS OF NATIONAL SOCIALISM; FRIEDRICH NIETZSCHE WAS THE MORBID ONE —HE WAS MORBIDITY PERSONIFIED.

«ONE DAY[,] HILDA BROUGHT A BOOK TO THE TRAIN[,] WHICH I SIMPLY HAD TO READ[;] IT WAS NIETZSCHE'S ZARATHUSTRA[;] I IMMEDIATELY TRIED TO ABSORB THE ENTIRE WORK, BUT SOMETHING ABOUT IT STRUCK ME AS ALIEN[;] THAT WAS, AS I REALISED LATER, THE OVERLY PATHETIC, EVEN THEATRICAL[,] ELEMENT WHICH, TO ME, APPEARED WILFUL [SIC] RATHER THAN PERFECT[…]»

Deleuze is not a philosopher.

in regards to the common man though, what is more likely to be holding a space in the public consciousness, the idea that for language, meaning=use, or some obscure ramblings about dasein. I could see the argument being made for Heidegger being more influential specifically within academic circles (continental at least), but to me, the test of a great philosopher is the gradual erosion of their academic ideas into commonly held notions that most people even in everyday life take for granted, i.e. pretty much all of Wittgenstein's thoughts on language.
