Anybody participating in nanowrimo this year?

It's my first time, but I decided to give it a shot after a few mates told me about it.

What are you writing about?

I suppose /lit/ could give you some feedback on your ideas and various excerpts. You'd probably need a friend or someone to read the entirety of it. Perhaps check out the forums for a helpful thread?

It's about how true love is sold as the the only valid, ultimate lifestyle, and how that can fuck people up. Handful of characters. Stream of consciousness type stuff for the most part.

I only started on the 12th, and have ~5k done. What's yours about?

>>1285109
That sounds interesting. Like how people turn down "imperfect" partners and relationships because they don't live up to an impossible "ideal" experience. 5k is pretty decent in a few days.

I started the 10th and have a bit over 8k done now. Writing a sci-fi story. It's about a man who wakes up with slight-amnesia, realizes that he has incredible psychokinetic abilities. After a short while he starts remembering and finds out that a group of scientists had used his genes to create an army and taken over the world.

Not playing the amnesia angle for long though, that gets old real fast.

Tell me about it. Exam in Japanese December 3rd.... Last week of lectures this week however, if I have the motivation this will be finished one way or another. There are a few things that I can't decide on though.

>should I spend much time describing the appearance of my protagonist.
>is he the sole source of superhuman powers.
>is there one big empire or smaller ones as well.

Things like that really.

How many different people are in your story? Different "main characters" that is.

>> No.1285205

>>1285152
There's ~5 core characters. 2 are more or less worked out, the main character, and a guy who only makes an appearance once. The main character's just fucked up a relationship, so a lot of the first part is around his ex, but there's nothing to her as a character right now. And there's two guys who visit him and bring him out of his navel gazing. Then there's like possible extras; maybe the ex has her supportive friends and stuff. Haven't filled out enough of the story to figure this out yet.

I see. How old is the main character? What nationality is he? and have you given much thought to what kind of person he is?

Anyone else writing for nanowrimo?

From the UK, university education, poor background experienced UK style social mobility, but feels fucked over by it after losing his job. Mid twenties. Is running away from his problems and retreating into himself. Living above a shop or pub or something in a dilapidated flat after moving out.

I'm not having issues of description at the moment; description builds up as he revisits things. He focuses a lot at first on newspapers and TV.

How are your characters coming along?

I am! I'm well over 23k words, but I've been disciplining myself for 1,667 words daily, so I'm doing well.

So far I've only really introduced two characters. The main character who is disoriented and struggles with controlling himself. He's constantly trying to determine how to deal with the onslaught of techno-organic monstrosities thrown his way. The second is the man who may or may not be responsible for this. He's become a religious figure and believes that he's nothing short of the messiah.

Right now I'm struggling with describing a scene that the main character witnesses inside the mind of a drone. It's supposed to be a nightmarish hell-scenario, but I can't quite pull it off.

>>1285325
Great job! What are you writing about so far? Also, any prior experience with nanowrimo?

A bit over 10k words, going to call it a night now. Put in my dues for today.

>> No.1285404

Well, my story is about a guy who suffers some unknown accident and now every time he goes to sleep, he wakes up in someone else's body. He literally kicks out the "soul" or "entity" or "consciousness" of whoever owns the body and takes over until he falls asleep again. I'm describing a five-seven day period where he's trying to get a solid grip on his life and anchor himself with someone who believes his condition is true. Right now there's not much motivation for him, and he's just cruising through life. Maybe I'll make him start looking for his old life...

But yeah, that's the gist.

21k words. (Not) Writing as we speak. Have some greentext story.

>Set on the MOON!
>In the FUTURE, but only a bit
>3000 people OR SO, making sure its suitable for self sustainable life.
>SHIT KICKS OFF ON EARTH. EVERYONE DIES
>Book is about how society breaks down on the moon as people realise they are the last people left alive EVER
>COMPLICATIONS. People start getting hyper apathetic and suicidal. MORE SO THAN EXPECTED.
>FOOD ARRIVES FROM LAST DELIVERY FROM EARTH. PEOPLE FIGHT OVER IT.
>CONFLICT between people and SCIENTISTS.
>Conflict RESOLVED.
>Book ends as the people go down to Earth to see what actually happened.

I actually find this premise fascinating.
