Hey, /lit/. I'm working on a little project of my own at the moment and I need spooky folk tales to draw from, preferably from international sources. They need to be brief, I'm writing for TV here, and I'm looking more for old folk tales than anything.

Think Brothers Grimm, basically.

Anyone got any recommendations?

I think American McGee beat you to it.

The Erlking is awesome creepy fae shit. It's well known enough that most people will get it, but it's obscure enough to make your balls feel big.

I said TV, not video games...

Awesome, I'll take a look into this. My search is turning up the tale of a Nigerian tribal king, is that the right one?

The one I'm thinking of is a German faerie who lives in the forest and steals children. Goethe did a poem about said stealing of children.

As well as Der Erlkönig (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XP5RP6OEJI&feature=related))

Try Baba Yaga

I was actually looking her up a few days ago. Fascinating stuff. Her chicken leg house is a favourite bit of mine.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Damnit, /lit/ is helpful...

Struwwelpeter is always fun but might be too modern for your needs.

It's also a bit too short for them too, I think. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
