how is it possible to be a bloomer in the modern world?

>> No.12838409

The simplest change that I've found to have a great impact is to take a step back from the news and politics. Most of it doesn't matter at all and anything that actually matters will spread outside of the news cycle quickly. I can't speak for anyone else, and I certainly have a long way to go, but this change has proved to be a great first step to transitioning from a doomer to a bloomer

I realized that the majority of the things that tormented me were Not My Fucking Problem, and that me being ""aware"" of every single horrible thing in the world changed absolutely nothing. You're not responsible for the fate of the world you're born into. We each get to influence a little area the size of a kitchen garden, on average, so make it a nice garden. That's the world that needs your attention and energy and love, not the "world" you've built in your head crammed full of crimes against humanity.

If you call that irresponsible, I would call you a fool for ever thinking you could shoulder the responsibilities of God. Metaphorically speaking.

Completely untrue. The doomer simply has closed the options he is given with his own pessimism. You can break out of it, get out there and start with building your self through what you enjoy. Once you have made a sturdy foundation, branch out and give what you can to others. When your base of peers is large enough, you will bloom.

I feel like there's a common misconception that bloomers are ignorant of the world's problems. This couldn't be further from the truth. Most bloomer philosophy and literature is about learning to happy in the face of suffering--Almost as an act of defiance.

There is also the point that >>12840709 raised, in that sincerity does exist. Because we spend so much of our time on the Internet, all we see is an echo chamber dominated by political ideologues and extreme examples. Remove yourself from this world for a moment to talk to people outside of it (preferably people from working class backgrounds). The thing that will strike you about doing this is how people find optimism in the simplest things and have strong and intimate connections with people, and while they acknowledge that their lives could be better they make the most of what they have. It's then that you realise that being a doomer is self-masturbatory navel gazing and is far removed from the realities of day to day life.

Reading too much is bad for you. A lot of /lit/ needs to learn this.

All these ways to escape being a doomer sound so individualistic and self-centered for me. Having devoted all my time to my young family, I don't really get much out of self-improvement, I do wood sculpting as a hobby and while it's a temporary relief, seeing how individualism and the breakdown of traditional values over time have made it difficult to bring up a family, it's hard not to be a bit of a doomer. Americans will say, find a corner of the world where you can live in peace, but as someone rooted to my place of birth, I could never bring myself to do that. I just do my best to accept my lot, but I don't think I'm turning into a bloomer anytime soon.

I don't know what the fuck you mean by Bloomer Lit, but I think the best Japanese literature I can find that fits the description is Kobo Abe's "The Box Man," where a man decides to abandon social norms and responsibilities and live his life namelessly inside of a box. It's an interesting read. Otherwise, I can definitely give you some other recommendations for Japanese literature! "Kitchen" by Banana Yoshimoto is a really good book, and you can read it in an afternoon! I also enjoy works by Haruki Murakami, but if he's too mainstream for you, the dudebro samurai Yukio Mishima's "The Sound of Waves" is also a wonderful read. Hope this helped!

casual sex isn't bad per se, but thinking that having casual sex will somehow make you happy IS bad
if you are able to have casual sex without it damaging you somehow, then great - but a lot of people tell themselves this is the case, and are lying to themselves
so this is where it gets tricky
