Vidya vs. anime: which is the better storytelling medium? Which has the greater artistic potential (taking culture and context into account)? Which do you expect to achieve greater things in the future?

Video games will probably engage more people over their whole lifetime, anime is a subset of animation anyways it’s like asking if sci-fi literature will triumph all music artistically.

Anime as a medium is built on an intentional avoidance of challenging the viewer. Peak anime converges with ultimate decadence and pure entertainment. Any interactive medium of art is going to have a higher ceiling of storytelling potential than a passive one.

Though I doubt any of the following surpass the best of the Ghibli movies on your list, some notables:
Planescape: Torment
Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 (especially the latter)
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Undertale
Fallout 2
Fallout: New Vegas
Arcanum

Throwing Final Fantasy 9, Final Fantasy Tactics, System Shock 2, Shadow of the Colossus, Beyond Good and Evil, and Planescape Torment to that list too

Gotta say that asking for direct narrative comparisons is not giving video games their full service because even with simpler plots and characters they can evoke more from the audience by how well they can immerse you not just how well they spin a yarn not to say that anime has deeper plots and characters. The story on paper may not evoke a powerful emotion or moral onto the player but in motion the player gets something deeper.

video games and AR are obviously the greatest from of media and storytelling ever invented thus far, by far. And i dont even play video games. Anime is just childish bullshit 99 percent of the time, and the other 1 percent its brilliant animated film. but animated film the audience cannot interact with <<<<<<dynamic animated film the audience is a main character in

Animé is nonsense to me desu. I don't get the appeal.
video games have appeal but a lot of the good shit is indie and never see the light of day outside of niche online communities
