Yeah you spend a lot less time with writing what exactly is happening or what emotion is happening due to the use of parentheticals to convey it.

Hey guys, I wanted to ask if you guys had any recommendations of quality Sci-Fi and Fantasy books.

I'm trying my hand in writing (haha like almost everyone on this fucking board) and I'm trying to get inspiration for my stories.

I'm working on about 6 at once (5 Sci-Fi, 1 Fantasy) and I wanted to know if you guys had any really good ones I could use to spark my creativity.

The main authors I read are Asimov, Heinlein, Weir, Douglas Adams, and Terry Pratchett.

I'm very picky on books, but I wanna expand my reference pool by asking people here for any quality authors/series I could dip my feet into.

how did that guy even get so big. he seemingly sprang out of nowhere in 2017 and is basically the poster child for self publishing.
when i googled a bit the only thing that i could find was a post about him reading a book and then he got inspired to write one himself and then fucking did it.
i mean i can understand why people like him. he pumps out a book every month and its a full sized novel to boot. seems to give his fans what he wants and someone mentioned mailing him which resulted in some conversation over several mails.
we need more guys like him.
granted im not into the whole harem thing and he seems to be obsessed with it but at-least he is actually sticking to his gimmick. dude likes harems and writes harem novels.

Thank you, anon-san. I've had this problem for years and I knew it was my ISP, but had no idea what to do about it (there's only one ISP in my city so it's either them or nothing). >> No.12810660

8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 are googles dns servers.
you can safely use them. they are used world wide and only serve to resolve domain names.
if you are anti google however you can also use opendns servers its 208.69.38.205.
i personally use googledns in my pi-hole.
i have a dd-wrt router that uses my raspberry pie for adblocking and for ntopng for network traffic monitoring and logging. my router uses my raspberry pi as dns-server which in turn uses googles dns. its network wide adblocking i can only recommend getting a raspberry pi and installing pi-hole. its great. not only does it block adds, it also speeds up a shitload of websites since ad servers are blocked before the dns requests are even resolved.

Just finished this. I'm now pretty sure the people who review books online don't actually read them. The premise is that the protagonist, Latro, wakes up every day to forget what had happened earlier, and has to rely on a diary he keeps with him to make sense of the things around him. The novel plays out differently though, and he acts as if for all intents and purposes had no such handicap. Plot wise, literally nothing happens, and none of the characters face any real risks. The writing is nice though (Wolfe is obviously more intelligent than your average genre writer) and if you're really into Greek history and mythology then the story might appeal to you. The best i can say of this novel is that it's as offensively horrible as Peace. That one was fucking atrocious.

Does that actually happen in the books though? Because that really does just sound like the writer wanted a convoluted excuse for the wife to enjoy another man's cock without wanting to turn it into either actual cheating or rape.

Sometimes authors write about things they don't like too to point out why they are bad. The character is question was pretty ostracized afterwards, so I guess that was the objective.

>> No.12812626

jfc I can already tell the author is an insufferable piece of shit who thinks he's an 'enemy of the system bro because my ideas are /dangerous/' without realising he's literally a propagandist for them; I bet when he says the books contains 'unconventional opinions' it's shit like equality of outcome for all genders, so fucking clueless I hate these people

It's usually just about sex. Most people put that on the blurb because the amazon has a bunch of soccer moms who spend all their days reading romance novels and some times they spun on these books outside their circles and leave a bad review. So some authors put that in to prevent that.

This series literally feels like the author read the first Asoiaf book, and then went out and wrote her own version before G.R.R could finish his. It focuses on the struggle of the fading ‘Wolfblade’ family, currently lead by a decadent Louis XVI type, to maintain control over their kingdom while other great families (Eaglespike, Foxtalon) try to overthrow it. The main character is the last Wolfblade princess, a naive young girl, who purchases a dwarf (little person, not bearded) slave who teaches her how to be good at statecraft. By the time the last book rolls around, the girl is in her fifties and we’re focused on her kids as they enact her long-plan to secure the throne. There’s also a background plot involving Gods and a half-elf, which is a little more high-fantasy than G.R.R ever goes, but it’s unique enough to carry on its own. As a series it’s 7.5/10, but as a Game Of Thrones clone, it’s 9/10.

I have read nothing except faeshit for the entirety of the month and can safely tell you that literally nothing is like JSaMN.

JSaMN is like Austen's prose. Then there are two books that slightly resemble it like Lud-in-the-mist (You know how place names in JSaMN tend to be hyphenated like Lost-hope, Heart-break farm etc and some of the magical realism is about it) and Elfin Kingdoms (of which the first, second and seventh stories resemble JSaMN a bit in content and there are bits like when a horse breaks a leg that are pretty reminiscent of happenings within JSaMN).

As for magic that feels like magic The Book of Atrix Wolfe but it's not nearly as enjoyable as JSaMN.

I don't know why, but there's something about blatant disrespect for intellectual property norms / well established names that's deeply hilarious.

Like naming your band the exact same thing as some other band and branding it the same way, or making a game and calling it "Chess 2".

What do you guys think about self-published female authors? It's like the union of two of the most meme groups
>female authors
>self-published
And That's A Good Thing! It has the potential of being so bad it's good, or being just a overall gem in the mud. I confess I read very little books that fit this description, but being a self-published whore that I am and already having read everything by male-authors that is not a disgusting litrpg, I think I'm going into this next. From my limited experience in this niche, I can tell I am going to find a lot of shifter romance, particularly dragons and panthers, this last one tending to lick all over the main character's body for some reason.

Unfortunately, I confess I have a bias against female main characters, which is very limiting when trying to find something to read in this sphere, so I'll have to overcome that.

>>12823386
Yes, that's why I don't like female protagonists. They tend to have that shit in all of them, if not at the beginning, then at the sequels. That's why I tend to search for male-protagonists ones. The authors tend to self-insert as the main female love interest, and that tends to keep them in a wholesome relationship throughout. Unfortunately, these books are very few, and I may be missing out in some good books that are not love-triangles/cuckshit that do have a female protagonist because of my misgivings on reading them.

I don't mean a book that just features it, but has a viewpoint character deal with it realistically. Somewhat like how The Lat Man on Earth Club portrays PTSD.

I can't stand it when an author uses rape and then treats it like a kinky sex scene or at best like a character was beaten up and is vaguely butthurt about it but has no other issues. Same with child abuse, It takes me completely out of a story when something severely bad happened or happens to a character and they just turn into cringe-y edgelords instead of suffering from post traumatic stress, anxiety, or neurosis.

This stuff isn't edgy or fun, but it's very interesting and if done right provides great fodder for a character arc. Also, slightly broken people are the most interesting and their struggles are more relatable to me.

Can you think of books that would fit?
