Just got Roadside Picnic since the STALKER games were a part of my childhood, but how close are the games to this?

>> No.12703280

There are no similarities whatsoever. The games are complete shit narrativewise, as are video games storywise in general.

Read the book, watch Tarkovsky's film Stalker (they are both great works of art, but not terribly similiar to each other). Stop playing video games.

I'm not talking about the storyline what so ever.I'm referring to the aspects of the universe

No similarities at all. The games have more in common with games like Unreal or Half-Life than with A&B Strugatsky or Tarkovsky.

not close at all.
the film stalker was based on this book, but is very different.
the game was then based on the film, and is very different.

There's the zone with its traps and artifacts. There's an area called the garbage, there's an institute, and the military likes to shoot at stalkers for trying to cross the border of the zone. There's something else which could mildly spoil the ending but that's about it.

the book, game, and movie have nearly nothing in common but all are amazing. i've read the book several times, own several copies of the movies, and own all the games. just good stuff

The only similarities among book, game and movie are the overarching themes of humans facing the unfathomable and contrasting inner desires with hopelessness, and all three are otherwise profoundly different in both style and execution. Note that all three are very worth it anyways.

all 3 have similar elements, but used very differently on each media, so you may say "oh so this was in that part of the book", but it will be in a different context
