I recommend you read "The Sources of Shakespeare's Plays", by Kenneth Muir.

Shakespeare took plots from other sources, but he always changed many aspects of those works, mixed them with other sources, altered names, ages, locations, personal worldviews of the characters, and many other things.

If a common person browsed throw the materials Shakespeare used trying to find a plot to work that person would hardly find anything of worth.

Then there's the main difference: the abysmal difference between Shakespeare'slanguage and the language of the sources he used.

Take a look on just how much Shakespeare changed the original source for Othello:

He did the same thing with most of his plays. He was quite good in structuring his works and in cutting crude, unrealistic and bad-tasted bits from the original clay he used.
