The main audience of 4chan are people that are typically against the grain of normal culture--anime enthusiasts, gamers, loners, etc. Everyone that mainstream media tends to shit on, regardless of who is in power and influential, be it liberal or conservative ideologies. And back two decades when mainstream media and culture was conservative, it only made sense for the anonymous users of 4chan to be against them, to be liberal.
Now, naturally, it's oscillating back and liberal ideologies are pressuring full force, and, as usual, the main audience of 4chan are the ones who are disliked by whoever is in power. Thus we tend toward the opposite, as we always have.
Although there is a need for this to be mentioned--4chan has never been as popular as now. I strongly doubt this 'counterculture' culture will continue here as it only gets more and more popular with more users. Even now you can see the website's users' political ideologies not being as congruent as before.

I don’t think of myself as radical. I talk about politics with very few people at all. I actually agree with you completely that there’s much more to life which is why I read books and engage in similar philosophical pursuits. I love comedy and I love to laugh and go out drinking with friends. I used to be and still am inside a really happy and jovial guy. But the truth is, is that every piece of culture is affected by progressivism right now. I know first hand that all of the arts are infested with politics of this kind, which makes it all very shallow and boring since it’s reflected back at me in popular culture. The fact that I can go to a basement or art show and hear the same things expressed there as on MTV is very disappointing. In fact I never wanted any of this but it’s thrusted on to me. Even something as innocuous as the Hugo awards is now trite and silly, less of a duration of fun and interesting things and more a parade of inauthentic garbage. I’ll concede that my own past trauma with the subjects in question clearly color this. But what’s left for me then?! To winge at the not so subtle references every time I go to the movies? To try and take celebrities and their twitter at face value as some actual cultural exchange? There’s no way out for someone like me. It’s everywhere and suffocating and no amount of Cioran or Borges can drown out the society we live in that’s steeped into this zeitgeist. This is all unprecedented. What you don’t seem to realize is that there are many like me. We don’t want politics in our lives but once your eyes have been opened ( I know how conspiratorial that sounds ) it’s almost impossible to not see these things. Our interactions with women, friends, and family is forever changed. I love other human beings but I can’t even feel close to them because of this. The mere me took of a criticism much less my actual honest thoughts raises suspicion from everyone of some ill will. I really just want love and acceptance and it isn’t coming. I don’t want to do it, but I’m in no mans land and I’ll make them pay not because I want to but because I literally have no other choice.
