A pushing of the endorphin receptors of these mass media created human feed-back loops. It’s fascinating to watch. People on 4chan do it all the time, just with different triggering stimuli. It seems to be a particularly big problem in America.

The actual subject of the laughter is entirely the result of focused media/political campaigns towards no larger plan whatsoever, but getting people riled up with various emotional triggers, attaching them to certain abstract cultural signs (white people in this case), and using that to garner votes/publicity/money.

The humor comes from essentially attaching signifies A to reassuring situation B, in a way that is aligned to an already culturally established neural network-- the brain loves regularity, and given the social context of [joking, laughter, in-group, comedy book], it interprets the small endorphin rush received from this cultural affirmation as a signal to laugh.
