Because it's a part of life for everyone since antiquity, one that is both funny and embarrassing. It allows for bonding over a common plight and fr humbling of the arrogant, which is a good deal of what literature is about.

Same reason why sex is everywhere in every artform and even survives underlying in eras that banishes it from representation, much like god in this respect.
