People who want to look like they're well read, but actually only buy books about opinions that they already have, so that they don't need to be afraid of being wrong, and whenever anyone asks them about a book they own or might be interested in, their single overdeveloped opinion can be spouted in a manner that implies they're more generally educated and confident than they actually are.

I dunno man I've almost definitely read more by authors who disagree with my views than ones who agree.

I suppose what I meant to say was that the most book sales are committed by the type of people I described.
There are a few people like you, but a whole lot more of them.

boomers/gen Xers approaching their 60s that hoarded their meager earnings because they’re very risk adverse and now heading into a shakey retirement so they buy 20-50 books by millionaires to find the secret to getting rich is basically “its just ur mindset lole”

Upper-middle class to rich folk who want to build a miniature “library” in their home that they can show off to their peers in an attempt to look well read or give of an air of intellectuality. The people who actually read just get their books from the library.

libraries are full of worthless garbage. the only ways to get books worth reading are buying physical copies or downloading ebooks (or getting them for free at uni when old professors croak)

Where do you live? In the US libraries have every canonically significant book readily available and if it's a newer book, they'll be more than happy to order it for you free of charge.

Check out Inter library loan. You can have most books delivered to your library if you don't mind waiting.

I've been to a lot of people's houses and the most books I've seen was this guy in the house of this army guy who I went to school with. Nothing pretentious, lots of shitty YA books, cookbooks, self help books and the like haphazardly stacked everywhere.

fuck of Satan. I don't care about people seeing my Library. All my good books are scattered on the floor, no-one will ever see them. I buy books to fill my house with knowlege, so I can read WHEN I want and not have to bow to some cucked bookhouse.
