What is your favorite bible quote? Why?

>> No.12602015

The entire book of Job is amazing but God’s rebuttal to Job is full of great lines:

>Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades,
>or loose the bands of Orion?
>Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season?
>or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?
>Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven?
>canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?
>Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds,
>that abundance of waters may cover thee?
>Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go,
>and say unto thee, Here we are?
>Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts?
>or who hath given understanding to the heart?

All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast—all whose names have not been written in the Lamb’s book of life, the Lamb who was slain from the creation of the world.

Whoever has ears, let them hear.

“If anyone is to go into captivity,
into captivity they will go.
If anyone is to be killed with the sword,
with the sword they will be killed.”
This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of God’s people.

Imagine being the creator of everything, and so tastelessly and childishly boasting about your omnipotence to an innocent helpless little human being that you yourself made, and are therefore entirely responsible for every intrinsic deficiency in. What an absolute demiurge, fraudulent hack. The Father is not Yahweh, and Jesus was sent to create a schism within Yahweh's cult.

imagine not realizing that God's rebuttal is literally a rebuttal to exactly your self-important buttblasted criticism, and every word of Jesus in the NT reinforces it. Rabbinical Judaism that has been the norm since 300BC is indeed a cult, but don't project your suspicion of modern Judaism on to the Old Testament proper, which is not compromised by power-politics, and in fact features a plethora of prophets rebuking exactly what Jews have become before Jesus even arrives on the scene.

The Book of Job is a fucking masterpiece even if you're a heretic.

Again, given to me by the design of my creator. There is literally nothing I can do which I have not been allowed to. And if I'm lacking in mental facilities, that can only be the fault of the designer who made this mind of mine. And I apologize, Demiurge-kun, if my feeble mind you designed me to have can't comprehend the extent of your glories. Maybe give me a better mind, next time desu? Thank you uWu

>self-important
A perfect description of the Demiurge's ramblings above. Narcissistic higher-dimensional being pretending to be the Creator of Everything, absolute fraud. Jesus has no relation to it, Jesus never once says the Father came to Earth, or that the Father knew Abraham, or Moses, he even said no man knows the Father or has seen his face. If Jesus were the Jewish Messiah, none of the events that happened would have followed. He would have been able to prove that he is the same being who Abraham and Moses were in loyal to, he would have fulfilled all the prophecies of the OT, he wouldn't have changed any of the earlier statutes, all the Jews would have rejoiced that their God had returned, and everything would have been swell. Instead, he implies no relation to Abraham or Moses, introduces a new God completely unalike to the Yahweh previous and describes this God in ways that make it impossible to be the same (no man hath seen the Father...Moses and Abraham both saw Yahweh) overturns tons of laws, creates a completely new tradition, and is eventually literally killed by the religious leaders for all his heresies from the previous culture. Yeah, oh, nothing abnormal about that. All of that makes total sense. Nah, the Jews were just being salty, they were too blind to see that Christ was tooootally the same as their God and their prophets. Yeah, nah. He clearly wasn't, in any way.

Go ahead and prove me wrong. I'll wait. Use your scriptures, but only the OT and the words and events relating to Jesus. No Paul, no anyone else.

Would you care to actually read the Bible instead of shitpost on your fedora Facebook group?

Psalm 137

By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept
when we remembered Zion.
2 There on the poplars
we hung our harps,
3 for there our captors asked us for songs,
our tormentors demanded songs of joy;
they said, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!”

4 How can we sing the songs of the Lord
while in a foreign land?
5 If I forget you, Jerusalem,
may my right hand forget its skill.
6 May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth
if I do not remember you,
if I do not consider Jerusalem
my highest joy.

7 Remember, Lord, what the *******Edomites did
on the day Jerusalem fell*******
“Tear it down,” they cried,
“tear it down to its foundations!”
8 Daughter Babylon, doomed to destruction,
happy is the one who repays you
according to what you have done to us.
9 Happy is the one who seizes your infants
and dashes them against the rocks

Psalm 137 does not endorse infanticide but expecting an athiest to read is expecting too much

>Exodus Ch. 4
>[20] And thus Moses drew the pistol near his lips, blew its rolling smoke away with a short puff, and holstered it. The echo of the gunshot still rang through the rocky wilderness. [21] Crumpled and still bleeding at the foot of Sinai, Dickie Dawkins coughed weakly, drooling red bile that leaked onto the dust.
>Moses stood over him and spoke. [22] "Nothing personnel, kid. [23] This is the third time this week you people have tried to stop me from getting to that bush. Guess I gotta take matter into my own hands now."
>[24] Moses grabbed Dawkins limp hand, and pulled out a shining blade. "Oh dearie me, oh G-- AUUGH!" [25] Dawkins shrieked as the blade sliced through his right index finger. He then fainted, never to awake.
>[26] The prophet rose and went over to Dawkins' strange vehicle nearby. He wiped the bloody finger off on his cloak, and laid its pad upon the strange glass square, as he noted Dawkins did once. [27] A glassy light blinked and something hissed, then the vehicle's door opened gracefully on its own.
>[28] "And now, yet stranger lands lie ahead," he uttered to himself, walking in the vehicle as the door closed behind him. Without even a flash, the prophet and the vehicle vanished.

>As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.

I love that quote because it reconciles readily with my experience (though I try to avoid using it as an excuse to avoid helping people, but rather something to keep in mind if someone doesn't immediately change their ways) and because it's solid proof that dogs have always been gross (but I love them anyway).

Not a Christian but I do quite like the story of Samson.
The moral of "hoes ain't loyal" is timeless.
The main reason I like it though is how Samson, having fucked up, asks not to be saved but to be given the strength to kill the Philistines. Lesson being that when you have made a grave moral misstep you shouldn't cower or attempt to plead your way out of the consequences but rather grit your teeth and right your wrongs even if it costs you your life

>"Why are we still here? Just to suffer? Every night I can feel my leg, my arm, even my fingers; the body I've lost, the comrades I've lost... won't stop hurting. Like they're all still there. You feel it too don't you? I'm gonna make Yahweh give back our past." (Job 43)
