Religious people exist on faith. Reason has nothing to do with it so can't persuade them.

That's one interpretation. Another interpretation would be that religious people are incapable of reason, so they are more compelled by ideas based on emotion and fear rather than logic and science. It's a lower-brain function, but that is just simply where a lot of the human race is stuck.

both of them could get along, the theist could understand the very process that the atheist is explaying and the atheist could understand that it is indeed a beautifull apple, has a purpose and it´s profit from a very complex process that you could name god

>> No.1259691

>>1259683

It wouldn't work. What an atheist might consider 'god' (the universe) the theists wouldn't accept. It needs magic spells and such for it to be in anyway believable

lol the intolerance of atheists reflects the intolerance of the religious.
i would have more respect for atheists if most of them werent edgy teenagers who need to feel superior to other people.

Except there's a big difference between getting mad because someone isn't thinking logically and getting mad because they don't share your faith. People get mad at stupid people all the time. There's nothing wrong with it.

I'm not saying you're stupid because of what you believe, but it's not unheard of to get mad at someone for saying/supporting something stupid. And it's dumb to try to say that advocacy of dropping religion altogether and advocacy of a specific religion are the same.

I don't understand this point of view atheists always have, some of the greatest scientists and thinkers believed in a god. How can faith which, according to you, breeds ignorance produce people who asked some of the greatest questions?
besides, why are we arguing about this on 4chan.

If you could reason with any group of people who share a similar idea then there wouldn't be that group of people sharing that idea.
This is assuming you hold an idea that conflicts with theirs.

Well no fucking shit.

>> No.1259996

>>1259950
I don't think anyone thinks that holding any kind of faith means that you're an ignorant person, just that wherever that faith happens to fall you are very ignorant. So if a scientist has faith in what started the universe, but he makes a discovery in evolution, so? But if he has faith in creationism, then he'd be ignorant towards evolution, but he could still study other things.

Also, brainwashing, obviously.

>> No.1260029

Moronic statement, unreasonable in itself. Francis S. Collins is religious. Is he unreasonable? Fucking nonsense.
