I mean, there are certainly similarities between the southern Europeans and people of the Levant, but I wouldn't go as far as saying meds aren't white. They certainly are within the same racial umbrella as other Europeans even if they are closer to the edges. For that matter I'd consider most Persians or Georgians White as well. I'm the definition of a deracinated amerimutt. If I didn't have blue eyes I'd assume I was mixed. I'm mainly English and Scottish and I read mainly English authors, not out of some blood mythos but because it's what I like. I don't think I get more out of Shakespeare because of my genes. As for connecting with "muh ancestors" I feel more connection with my more recent ones, who were pioneers in the area I live. I do enjoy reading books by people who share a similar background, though. It's narcissism for sure but that won't stop me.

I know who my ancestors were for a few centuries back but so what. I don't feel connected to Britain or to the places they settled in the new world. If anything I feel a small amount of connection to the city I grew up in, but even that city is changing so rapidly because of immigration that it's basically no longer the same place.

What I know of my ancestry comes from my dad who researched the matter extensively. It seems an ancestor of ours traveled from the island of Jersey to Canada to join the Acadian colony. Later, the Acadians got conquered by the British for refusing to swear oaths to the British crown. Many of my distant relatives got exiled to Louisiana where they would later fight for the South in the American Civil War. Those I descend from fled to Gaspésie which is a farflung peninsula in what we now call Quebec. Amazingly, a few in this region still speak Jersey Norman today. My grandfather would eventually move from Gaspésie to Northern Ontario for work. I come into the picture not long after.
