So you get cop-mage for the first 3 then diplomat mage for the next 3 (and then something else iirc) so it isn't too formulaic

I wasn't really looking for a chaste succubus but after everything that happens in the novel, both in Alex' past lives and with the whole redemption and true love angle, I really hoping it wouldn't go there. You'd think that an immortal demon who just learned of love would be happy with just the man she loves instead of wanting to spend time apart from him so she find other men (or women actually but whatever)..

He fucked up big time. To all you aspiring baristas- I mean authors. Make sure your story is at a maximum 3 books or less. The first is the beginning, the second the journey and the third the resolution.
Brown fucked up because he wrote the story with no endings (he literally ends all the books on cliffhangers). When I originally read extermination I thought everything was going to wrap up at the end, but he added more things. Now he can't write for shit. The last book took 4-5 years to come out... and what does he do? Add more shit and end on a cliffhanger.

I like William Arand's work ethics. Everything wraps up in a trilogy. You don't have a story stretched so thin it bursts in the middle.
I'm sure his super soldier space princess will suffer from that too. He will write until he is bored and the story is so dispersed that he can never finish it.

This makes sense now. It explains a lot if there are literal autism in these generals. It shows why they obsess over a certain few books, and blatantly, vehemently ignore anything else. Even when they never gave it a try.

Leftists have ruined entire genres of fiction for me. I can't pick up a modern fantasy or science fiction book without assuming it's filled with obnoxious political messaging. Females are stronger than men, gays should be worshiped, abortion is healthy, healthcare should be universal, and on and on and on. All of their opinions are the same and it's boring.

I'm talking about the underlying beliefs of the authors which manifest themselves in sometimes subtle and sometimes not so subtle ways. An author who worships gays might have a character which is explicitly gay even though it doesn't serve any purpose to the narrative and he'll be portrayed as unnaturally good and moral. This sort of thing is very common and there's now actually a sub genre on Goodreads called 'LGBT fantasy" but those are for the not so subtle authors.

I understand where you're coming from but this is hardly something new for SF&F. Both genres have always been prone to political and social speculation, and obviously often indirectly dealing with current matters, and the attempts have not always been exactly literary. Our guy Robert Heinlein is a perfect example of this, you don't have to be an libertarian to enjoy The Moon is a Harsh Mistress but you have to have quite a specific set of believes to enjoy the shit he try to stuff your face with in some of his later books. For example I doubt you'd enjoy Farnham's Freehold. So while I agree that there's many books where the preaching is simply to much you should probably tune down your knee-jerk reaction to opinions you don't share.

It's not even the political messaging in itself that bothers me, it's the one sided nature of it which offends me. If you look at any popular fantasy or sci-fi award every single author will be a leftist and some of them are activists when they're not writing. It's as if you have to conform to a particulars set of beliefs in order to be published and the product is so bland. I've seen their stories too many times.

Are you implying that i'm a "broadcasting left". There are literally millions of books. If you don't like something don't read it. That pollie willingly reading books with the things he despised, then coming here to cry about it just seems retarded and stupid. Therefore he is trying to ignite a pol conversation. This entire series is basically powered by political machinations. Sure, there's a battle or two here and there, and the occasional quest, but the central story is about usurping power from a shitty depraved Prince and preparing the new generation to take over once he dies. All while their neighbours not-India keep trying to take over the world. I would normally recommend this with the proviso that Fallon is a bit of a basic writer, but if you enjoyed Abercrombie this shit will feel like Gene Wolfe.

I despise Vox Day but I'm forced to go to that extreme in order to fulfill a need and consequently his politics could be influencing me without my realizing it.
