A. Most of our culture is local, hence why different states and regions have different accents and ways of life. You can't clump america in one category as we have more than a hundred cultures. An example i could use would be our horror for example. In the north we have sleepy hollow but the south has voodoo.
B. Our past, without any sugar coating, is very racist. We have prided ourselves on the concept of freedom while denying it to people for centuries. It's hard to take pride in the myth of the wild west when it comes with the baggage of genocide. You can't really be happy with the "picket fence" idea of america when segregation and the cold war loomed over those times.

In that case I can agree with you. I don’t want to leave you with the idea that Americans don’t know or care about such hypocrisy but you need to realize that there isn’t a single day that goes by where our media and entertainment industry doesnt beat us over the head with these facts. Right, my sentiments precisely, while looking towards the past, the morally ambiguous and the morally reprehensible seem now, to us, clear-cut, though, this led to the enormous variety of DNA in the modern US. Now, one would be borderline psychotic to defend or commend the actions taken while on western front of expansion, but one would also be idoitic to dismiss them altogether as they've led to the unchangeable "NOW"... we can learn from it, use it to govern our current choices.
