My native language is Spanish and the book selling market in this language is virtually non-existent. I learned English so I could make my lifelong dream of becoming a best-selling sci-fi/fantasy writer a reality, but there's no way I could ever compete against native English speakers in a game that requires advanced written communication and reading comprehension skills (I've learned most of what I know from video-games and movies rather than books or any sort of formal scientific or academic text form)

Does anyone know of any free novel writing software that suggests synonyms for words that have been repeated way too many times in the story? And maybe also correct and review grammar and other issues?

Make a virtue out of your inadequacy. For example, you could have a first-person narrator who is a native spanish speaker himself.

great advice!

OP there are many examples of authors who did not write in their native language among them Beckett and Conrad, so just because you are not a native speaker does not mean that you can't write great fiction! (I'm myself a Russian speaker and I'm also writing a fantasy novel in English btw). and yeah, as the other anon said, make it your strength and cultivate your own style. I suggest you take a closer look at the authors with a somewhat minimalistic writing style like Hemingway.

It's the third major spoken language by native speaker on the planet, how is there nor market? I understand that English is the best, but come on Spanish is not a tragedy either.

Kinda hard to believe that there is no market. Anyway, my advice, if You decide to go the english route is, actually some motivation: since English aint Your first language, You have Your own authentic grasp of it. Have fun. :)

Wouldn't native English speakers in the story sound unnatural?

Maybe, but a first-person narrator doesn't have to be omniscient or perfect in his retelling.

You're just a self hating faggot who's looking for an excuse to write a fanfic in english.

It's simple really. Basically any Latinate word you know will have a relative in English. Browse Wiktionary for a while and you'll be surprised how much everything ties together.

OP is right about the English literary market being bigger than the Spanish market. English is the most common second language in the planet, and that means a lot of media, no only books, but also cinema, video-games and the like
