I buy all my books physical. I don't really like e-readers much, i don't like sitting with the screen or the technology. I like physical books because it's a break from all the tech. It's more comfy and I like that comfy feeling.
It's much more expensive, but you can get used books online pretty cheap if you in bulk and can get shipping costs down or even free if you really haul big.

This is one of the biggest problems plaguing modern fantasy, what a shitshow it is. It's like the the world can suddenly change to be entirely made up of SanFran coffee bar bloggers and self-righteous redditors.
I hate it when dialogue in modern fantasy is criticized as being "outdated" or "not modern enough".

Yeah I joined the struggle recently. Been working on my weird fiction book for a couple years then the second season of West World kind of trampled on ideas I planned to use. Put that down for a Theravada-based space opera because I'm a fairly hardcore lay buddhist and there isn't much buddhist themed fiction period. I'm starting to suspect I'll never finish anything but it's at the point where I don't care and I know I'm just going to work on it regardless.

I believe BRANDON SANDERSON has a foot fetish. My reason for believing this is because I have a foot fetish so I pick up on things most humans do not. Take for instance the ever shitty House of Cards. Now, I do not like this show (House of Cards) but I did sit through 4 seasons of that crap hoping it would get better, and in that time I noticed numerous examples of blatant foot fan service. It is a good fetish to pander to because it occupies a gray area due to the lack of nudity, which is why its perfect for a guy like BRANDON SANDERSON. Reading Mistborn, I can't help but notice how many times we are reminded of Vin's cute bare footedness. She's barefoot on the roof, toes clutching the edge. She's barefoot on cobblestone, only to walk on marble. Vin walked to his bed BAREFOOT, making no sound. Of course the obvious explanation (for the mundane majority of men) is that Vin is a Mistborn -- a thief -- and strives to remain quiet. She has to make lots of sacrifices due to the magneto magic of BRANDON SANDERSON'S world, such as never wearing toe rings or anklets (unless they are wooden or something) but I do not believe this is the sole reason for the foot prose on display in these books. The author (BRANDON SANDERSON) has fueled my spirit with his depiction of Vin. I have a hard time getting through the pages when I keep seeing examples of her beautiful foot-based dexterity, yet its these very passages that push me further on. I see visions of Vin toying with Elend, giving her man a royal footjob that any king would crave with her expertly trained toes. I think about Vin embarrassed, painting her toe nails to match her dress while Zane watches from the window. I think about her wearing glass slippers to show off her new feminine toes at the balls! Oh what a sight to behold! I am not even on the third book so I can't begin to imagine how much footy goodness is still to come. Anyway, these are my reasons for suspecting BRANDON SANDERSON has a foot fetish.

What I am saying is that there is this tendency in modern fantasy and sci fi, where women authors hide this fact behind initials because some people don't trust the quality of women authors in THIS PARTICULAR GENRE. I think the Liveship Traders trilogy is pretty damn great but only for patient readers because they are long ass books, The Farseer trilogy is alright but less ambitions and sometimes becomes misery porn. If you read those 6 books you've basically had the best she has to offer so I wouldn't bother reading further, her Realms of the Elderlings Series has something like 16 books, so if you are bored then there's plenty more but I cant recommend them in good faith.

I guess it depends on who you are as a reader. If you're a fan of a particular genre, it might be interesting to you to go back and see where it all began and see what has changed. Neuromancer, for instance, has long since be surpassed by other works, but it acts as the progenitor of many, so if you were interested in that genre, it is really is almost required reading. If you want to understand the genre and perhaps contribute to it yourself, it's always good to know where things began, what worked and what didn't.

If you're just looking for a fun read, then yeah, maybe "the classics" aren't going to interest you, but it's worth noting that if something was so groundbreaking and so interesting to so many that it's managed to last so long, perhaps it's worth looking into yourself. Some classics are classics because they're timeless. Ready Player One isn't ever going to be a classic because it's too much like a time capsule. Everyone who reads it today will understand it, but future generations will get nothing from it.

You could bundle every few chapters into a Star Trek esque TV series episode, and at the end of what feels like 7 seasons, you'd have an ending.

I loved how it took its time building the world before introducing conflict, which really helped setting up ground rules for the starship types and technologies, and how they interact.
