Ive always wanted to be a girl but Ive never been attracted to men. The titular character (not protagonist, though) of the book is transgender so Im not denying at all that it explores my own psyche, its actually pretty fucking blatant about it. My own surprise was simply the fact that the story was not initially built around or conceived with any of these ideas in mind and none of them really appeared in the older drafts. The book isnt really about coming out sexually, its about the effects of repression on identity and behavior. Both main characters are "school shooters" in a fantasy setting

Maybe it's just on your mind.
Maybe there's just a hint of a bisexual in you.
Who knows? If the story works this way, go with it.

Because they werent there in earlier drafts and only seeped in piece by piece. Obviously this could partly just be that I understand the story itself more and enhance elements of it more consciously as it progresses

the story isnt really about growth, its about the exact opposite, succumbing to the pressure of being fundamentally unsatisfied

both of the main protagonists dont have their human bodies anymore, one of them is already a mass murderer and the other one was brought back after suicide for a chance to take revenge on the world instead of just dying quietly
