I'm living in the most beautiful place I've ever seen, west US. Making enough off a small patch of Western smelly plants to make ends meet, tucked away on top of a mountain with a room full of books. I've had a lot of time to read. No nine to five for now. I think all of the subjects in the selection are related to each other. All of these approaches aim at the same thing but use different terminologies and methods. I've been most interested in Plato's approach because there is still so much that is a mystery about his philosophy and I keep learning new things every time I read his stuff and I tend to have a lot of success understanding his style. I've listened to the republic four times this week while trimming. It has been a surreal experience, but if I were to hear any other book on repeat (after reading it many times in the past) I might get sick of it. I don't know, I love it more and more.

I'ma try to give you a better response on the mystery religions tomorrow, but short answer is in pic related. Degree in economics because income inequality is fucked up. Economic policies won't change without change in politics. Politics won't change without a change in the religious right's misunderstanding of Christianity. I go to get a master's of theology to try to convince people of what seemed obvious, Jesus would have been looking out for the poor. I don't think the dude existed, but that would certainly be his stance. Graduated, but I'm not going to change a conservative's mind by writing about it. Now my goal is to learn all of this stuff. I'm hoping that through meditation, practice, and learning I'll achieve a frame of consciousness that is essentially more enjoyable than the one I have now. I have other goals, but this is my one true goal.

Have you read much Vedanta texts anon? I ask because I went through your whole series of pics and it seemed to be one of the few major mystic traditions that you didn't have anything from, and because you have so much (neo)platonic stuff I'm surprised because it aligns very beautifully with it. I see you have some Guenon and Coomaraswamy, those authors are top-notch but even they are like childs-play compared to the actual Vedanta texts they mention like Adi Shankara's commentaries, the Yoga Vasistha, Tripura Rahasya and so on; you may really enjoy checking some of those out and since you've already read those authors and all the platonic stuff you'd be perfectly situated to understand it well. There's a quote from an essay by Coomaraswamy where he lists the stuff someone should read before studying Vedanta and most of its in your pics. "A European can hardly be said to be adequately prepared for the study of the Vedanta unless he has acquired some knowledge and understanding of at least Plato, Philo, Hermes Trismegistus, Plotinus, the Gospel of John, Dionysius the Areopagiite, Meister Eckhart and Dante" - AKC in the essay "Vedanta and the Western Tradition" (roughly paraphrased, I can't copy the exact text on my phone)

It would completely depend on the type of personality I were talking to, but if I were to push from left to right, I would make the person understand authenticity of the Podesta emails, make sure they know that none of the authors of the emails deny authorship, and I would go through a number of email threads that show how truly fucked the incest-pit of wealth, media, and establishment politics really is. People on both sides require direct quotes, fingerprinted evidence to be swayed at all, and the Podesta emails hold a wealth of that type of evidence. I researched those emails like scholarship. There are a lot of email thread narratives that make the establishment look horribly corrupt, but these narratives haven't been put in an accessable format. If the subject can appreciate the wiki leaks thing as a view inside the operations of a global empire unlike history has ever seen, I think he/she could reconsider the media's narrative on the matter and completely lose trust in the left on account of shady business presented in the emails. I would put together a few lists of other factual evidence that would flow through certain categories based on the response to previous categories of information. Oh goodness, fun exercise on my phone screen, and I apologize if the response was less than general. Depends on the type of work, I come up with ideas alone, write alone, my biggest strengths, but in any sort of group activity I'm great at being whatever the group dynamic needs and other people's impressions of me mean a lot to me, so that is another stimulant on the side of group work.

Hahaha, GREAT QUESTION. NO! It's trash. No analysis at all. I was so excited for it, as I haven't found anything about the red book that is actually worth reading.

Do you still have faith in democracy? What is your ideal form of government?

i disagree with your approach, e.g. i think you fall hard on a convincing rather than persuading registrar (to take a kinda wittgensteinian view of the problem), but i like the way you think. you especially seem self-aware and very honest, which i prize greatly. straight up: i teach at princeton and run a political consulting firm and private library in DC. i seek out a very specific type of talent, and I think so far you fit the bill.

i am interested in understanding more about your ambitions, and would like to talk to you further. if you are all interested, please email me: cicindelaes at gmail. it's a throw-away account, and i will delete this post in about half an hour. if you are at all interested, include some proof that it is you. of course, as the time comes, any and all proof of my claims will be made available in whatever form you would like.

i look forward to hearing from you.

Nah. I still haven't gotten around to buying the complete works of Jose Canseco.

Similar tastes though. I have the same copy of Annals of the Former World on my other shelf.

If you like Ray Chandler you should read James Crumley and Charles Willeford. Dashell Hammett too if you haven't gotten to it yet. Burn you chuck palahniuk
