Is there any more patrician of a twist? I never see it coming, and it always explains all the plot holes and stupid shit that doesn't make sense. Literal perfect ending, I hope that's how they end GoT, and I was disappointed that wasn't how Last Man on Earth ended

Earlier in the book, Sparrowhawk in his hubris tries to summon not!Helen of Troy, and she appears briefly but then disappears, and in her place is a terrible shadow. He spends most of the remainder of the book running from this shadow, unable to stay anywhere for long. Eventually this flight leads him off all the maps, past any human reach, sailing beyond anything and everything, yet still the shadow pursues. Finally it catches him on a small desert island. It is about to apprehend him when he finally realizes its true name--it is his own true name, his own shadow, and as he speaks this name it harmlessly rejoins with him and he becomes truly himself and whole. I read this as a child before I knew the word "kino," but that's the only word for it.
