Depends on what you mean by "soul"

The soul exists, yes. In what form, I don't know. But I do know that a person has a soul to their personality, a person has that which encompasses their being and transcends their simple mind and instincts. The soul is that which is formed from the conflict between mans instincts and mans intellect.

I can’t really explain what I feel when I worship and love God. In that moment of enjoyment, I feel light, carefree, completely different from all other types of pleasures. Maybe this is only a result of some materialist component of the brain, I wouldn’t know, but it’s certainly unique and there doesn’t seem to be an explanation for it, so I’ll go along with the idea that we do have souls.

Yes, the soul/self is ultimate reality insofar as ultimate reality is in your head. Compare it to an extra-dimensional infinite set. It’s also sometimes called God, though things in themselves do not necessarily cease to be as a consequence of what I’ve said so far.

Materially, I don't think so. Spiritually, I very much feel so. I think belief in the soul helps me live a kinder, better, more fulfilled life. There's something about the idea, and the belief in the idea, that provides a larger, more meaningful perspective and a deeper, more emotionally honest means to express and understand our here.

I may not have a great answer, but these are the questions that confuse me: Why is my experience of consciousness seated in this one otherwise random animal's cognition and perception? What is the "I" that has a situated perspective in the first place? Before I was alive there was supposedly nothing as far as my being; how does something come from nothing?

Those are some great questions. I don't know very much, but I can speak as I would to a friend with the purpose of sharing perspective. I'd like to think the "soul" or "consciousness" or the "I" (or are least what we perceive it to be), to mostly be a consequence of our biology, (and environment too, depending on the scope of the argument and definitions). Not necessarily a thing in and of itself, but a side effect that somehow seems to envelop and guide our existence.

“I” is probably more like a mouthpiece, like a spokesperson of being. Gurdjieff structured it like a horse carriage. The carriage is the body, the horses the emotions, the driver the intellect, the person inside the will. When the 4 are in agreement the will is utilized, but for the most part life just “happens” in a deterministic way or habitually.

I think the point is to stop pretending words like god and soul and spirit have any meaning. Specify exactly how they are being used or make new words. Obviously communication can't be perfect but it can be a hell of a lot better than insisting these words have meaning.
