Has anyone watched this documentary? He refers to a book about an atheist philosopher who eventually finds God, but i cannot for the life of me find the book.

Also, is he /ouraesthetic/?

Thomas Merton. This was when his (anthony's) mother died and he just started considering christianity. Actually it was probably his first little inclination towards it. Full conversion happened later on.

What's the end goal of atheism? As far as I can tell, militant atheists are fighting against a symbol that represents good out of misunderstood semantics and false beliefs. Is it organized religion that they're against?

The end goal of atheism is suicide of the self and destruction of all creation to spite God for creating the universe.

>end goal of atheism
>fighting against a symbol that represents good out of misunderstood semantics and false beliefs
god damn you are fucking brain-dead, get your head out of your ass

atheism is literally just the belief that there is no god. That’s it. In order to say that’s its false then you must be in possession of the truth. If this is the case, then faith serves no purpose at all. There’s no “goal”, there’s no specific book they follow. No one gives a shit that you think your fairy represents good. That last sentence makes no sense because if you aren’t for organized religion then you are against Christianity or you are a heretic.

the belief that god doesn’t exist, while CONJECTURE, is not a “semantic” argument or verifiably “false”

that entire post was you scratching your ass and sniffing it

When I said atheism in this context, I was talking about it as a movement which clearly has some sort of a goal. Seems like I should've said antitheism or militant atheism. I was thinking of an atheist who has read philosophy and theology and thought about the body/mind (or other such duality) divide, then decided to become a militant opponent against the side that religion tries to move towards. I don't understand how someone would fight for that side other than from a misunderstanding. In that context I can see someone being unhappy with their church and turning against the institution and organized religion out of that unhappiness.

depends on your definition of rationality
>The only definition of rationality that I found that is practically, empirically, and mathematically rigorous is that of survival –and indeed, unlike the modern theories by psychosophasters, it maps to the classics. Anything that hinders one’s survival at an individual, collective, tribal, or general level is deemed irrational.

Militant atheists are like an entirely different species from people who were just never raised religious and never really had a strong belief in God, many of the latter people are not opposed to the idea but just wait until they either find a book/faith/doctrine/teaching that presents it in a way they find believable and acceptable before taking it seriously.
