Is poetry dead as an artistic medium? 90% of poetry nowadays is slam poems by woke obese black women about racism or stupid white women about how they were wronged in some way on account of their gender.

>90% of poetry nowadays is slam poems
it's not though, but it's popular and something useful may someday come of it. A lot of shit needs to get written before good shit comes of it. The shit shit is necessary shit, there are many shitty bricks in a temple, but few absolutely necessary pillars to keep the structure up.

What do you mean? People still write poetry, it's pretty common, why would you follow whatever outlets push your description? 90% of poetry is not slam poems, those are just publicised and promoted in certain circles in the U.S. So, why bother with those circles?

I think Borges said something about books on the shelf being dead, and coming to life suddenly when someone opens one.

While I share your aversion to slam poetry, this business about "woke obese black women" is a racist caricature, and "stupid white women" is distastefully misogynistic. If I were to describe slam poetry, I would say

"Its got a lot of earnest younger people who view reality through an unfortunately myopic though well intended lens that sees people and identity as essentially political matters, and therefore reduces all artistic approaches to political statements."

I would apply this statement as readily to people such as you, subject to the following two emendations

> "inauthentic" instesd of "earnest"
> "and bitterly malicious" instead of "though well inteded"
