If you're just reading it on your commute, torrent the ebook and put it on an e-reader. There's no point buying a dozen volumes just so you can read them for an hour per day.

The thought of someone parsing Plato on a computer train or bus seems outrageous to me. Best of luck! Obviously it makes no difference reading isolated volumes! Why does that even need to be asked?

If anything, buying individual volumes will provide you with more notes or introductions. Hackett usually has a short introduction and a few footnotes throughout the text. If you're buying individual volumes and it happens to be less expensive, consider getting the Oxford World's Classics version. Their introductions are usually a bit longer and there are more extensive explanatory notes at the end
