Read review and/or synopsis and see if it appeals to you.
It sounds awful to me.

To the library, and step on it!

Read it, then you can have an opinion and discuss it, until then you cannot and you have no reason not to read a canonical work if you want to get into the know of and discuss literature

yes but not worth reading imho

>> No.12418555

It's very good in my opinion but I would suggest either his short stories (Oblivion) or his essays (Big Red Son is a good one, as are a few others in the collection it was published in, Consider the Lobster) as a better entry point. If you like the style he uses in his shorter stuff, IJ is probably worth giving a go.

It's the penultimate of literature so yes

>> No.12419287

It's not really a good book, so no, I wouldn't recommend it.

It's of course a meme here though so people here will recommend it simply because of that alone.

Don't be stupid. It is a great book, but come on.

I have never been so indecisive on whether or not I liked a book as I am towards IJ. It's genuinely well written: that might be the only genuine thing about it. It took me a month to get through; I can't say it was all for naught, but whenever I reflect on parts of the book I have this weird love/hate thing which usually settles into indifference. I say, take the time to read it: it makes /lit/ 10x more enjoyable.

Do you like any of the following:
>David Foster Wallace
>Post-modernist literature
>Encyclopedic novels
>Homosexual teenagers playing tennis
If so then read it.
