Zizek has been interviewed by Vice about Marx and Social Democracy. Go to 20 minutes in.

This is a literature board and the sticky clearly states that threads should be about books.

You posted a link to a Youtube video (did you know Youtube aka Pseudtube is for lazy jackasses, teenagers and idiots).

Please delete this thread and I hope you get banned.

It's of one philosopher/ writer discussing another philosopher/ writer. If you want to discuss genre fiction, bookshelves or booktubers there are many other threads, fren.

Go to >>>/his/ to discuss philosophers or philosophy in general. /lit/ is for the discussion of literature (fiction, drama, prose, poetry etc.) Specific books about philosophy are welcome topics here, particularly when they are related to literature and criticism.

The entire point of this board is to discuss reading and books, not Youtube videos. Please delete your thread and make it on /his/.

Now, I'm starting to question some of the belief's I've received via /pol/ osmosis, but can you really take a look at the types of people in the latter half of the video and say with complete honesty that they are the "oppressed working class" that Marx hopes will revolt? All I see are faggy academics and hipsters from gentrified urban centers that use Socialism as a means to have self-masturbatory festivals with performances, music, and cake.

The sheer irony of two effeminate bald "men" writing songs about factory work set to hyper-capitalist 80's pop beats in a country where that type of employment has been eradicated in the past three decades simply baffles me. How does a philosopher like Zizek not look at this event and see the sheer lack of self-awareness possessed by these champagne socialists?

being poor, i can't help but sympathize with socialism, but at the same time, it's hard not to get the impression that socialism is little more than a hobby for trust fund kids, artists, media people, and assorted professional class strivers. despite all the saber rattling and bleating about "succdems", it's telling that none of them ever attempts to organize actual workers or do anything that could plausibly be considered radical. in fact, i get the impression that if a bunch of carhartt sporting (not wip) working class joes showed up at a dsa meeting, many of them would be extremely uncomfortable and possibly annoyed. the whole focus of these people's revolutionary activity seems to consist of tweeting, podcasting, writing in left-wing literary journals, and going to protests. when's the last time there's even been a left-wing terrorist? even if i heard on the news that a bunch of bankers or ceos or some other ostensibly left-wing targets were killed, i'd just assume it was the work of some weirdo strasserite neo-nazi or some radical muslim or something. it would never occur to me that any of these dipshits could be responsible.

sounds like empty grandstanding
>how much the electoral body moved to the right
ok, so what?
>their biggest achievement is that they broke out of this culturalist leftism
i guess they did, but any guy on the new right could tell you the same without pretending to be doing high theory
>here again marx is actual
is he?
>at the end you stumble upon the problem of capitalism
but marx wasn't against the "all solid melts into air" part of capitalism were all traditional institutions break down, he liked that part, and marxism doesn't address this issue at all beyond saying that if workers had direct access to the product of their work they wouldn't care about that loss, which is too hand-wavy to be taken seriously
>and we do not have an answer here
i guess he is correct here, but then why listen to him at all? any retard right winger on youtube will give you the same diagnostic, and no solution, but then again Zizek has no solution either so he is not offering anything that they don't

my verdict is cringe and slightly-redpilled

I initially liked Zizek but the more I read and heard from him the less coherent he became and he just seems like another social critic who hedges a lot of bets and doesn't actually have a solution to any of the problems he points out.

Having said that, A Pervert's Guide to Ideology is still a great film about films.

Nah, weird artsy fartsy leftists have existed in the West since the 20s desu. Its part of the reason why Marxism was as influential as it was, because anyone with artistic sensibilities was somehow drawn into the fold of producing Marxist shit.

Why are Marxists such weird effeminate cultists? There's nothing about his actual works that seems to warrant such followers. So why do they flock to him?

>> No.12387125

>>12387116
I think a lot of Marxists aren't so much Marxists as they are anti-capitalists. Now to be fair, there's a lot to criticise capitalism for, but these people take it to an extreme and centre their whole identity around it. Since most people against capitalism tend to be well-educated middle or upper-middle class urban people who would lose the least in a transition away from corporate power, it's only natural that they're going to be thematically interested in things urban upper-middle class people usually are (weird art displays, interpretative dance, etc.)
