I have not read him but I love John Climacus (so did Kierkegaard, he even used his name for some of his work, "Johannes Climacus" ) and Isaac the Syrian. The Ladder of Divine Ascent really turned me on to the Orthodox Church. I had originally considered Catholicism, but I was very upset that Thomas Merton (who is highly regarded by Catholics) attacked the work as too severely and even insane.
