this is such a wholly dishonest post I don't even know how to answer. yeah I guess it can, but there are certainly things cinema can't do that literature can and vice versa. And with the high budget of cinema it's easy to have low-quality fastfood-tier trash like Marvel and Star Wars movies. don't get me wrong, garbage exists in literature too but there's not nearly as high a barrier of entry for people who have something meaningful to say.

Tarkovsky talks about it a bit in his book and his general conclusion is that film is still trying to be literary instead of evolving into its own thing. At this point I think film is having trouble finding a direction, the same as literature, and to try and compare the two is a retards game.

The experience of watching a movie and the experience of reading a poem are radically different. They satisfy two different urges in a human. No one of them is going to replace the other.

>> No.12354286

>>12354263
Is Lynch the exception to that? He hates symbolism and refuses to explain his works because he thinks the point of cinema is that it doesn't require so many words.

movie like The Master is really fucking good and I'd say on par with some good literature, at least with literature of similar style, in the case of The Master some postmodern novel.
That said, comparing different mediums is extremely silly.

>>12354263
Interesting given that Tarkovsky's work seems to be more literary than cinematic, due to his minimal use of cuts. The edit, alongside motion, is what makes cinema what it is.

For me the book and the indie vidro game are the superior medium, mainly because its a personal project and not a "product". Movies by comitee of shareholders killed cinema

For cinema to surpass film you'd have to make some arbitrary ranking of the art forms in the first place. Good luck with that.

Yes, but now film is stagnating and soon video games will replace it as the dominant art form.

In a couple of decades film will have regressed into an irrelevant niche medium just like literature has.

perhaps that will happen to high brow movies, but most gaymers drool over capeshit and such, which is exactly why capeshit exists. It isn't like some cheap arthouse underground movie made with a meaning, but simply empty characters with the same cheesy humor, boring villains and a lot of crossovers with the sole purpose of milking the sea of sedated niggercattles
