Fuck DC, fuck Northern Virginia, fuck Maryland, fuck Baltimore

What a horrible place. Make sure you leave 1 hour early so you can have time to drive, aka sit on the Whitehurst Freeway suspended above the ruins of Georgetown, a black neighborhood turned outdoor boutique shopping mall, gazing out at the diarrhea water of the potomac (yes, theres shit in it), wondering if your six figure salary is really worth it, looking down at paddle boarders and thinking "gee maybe I can try that, that would be something" and trying to resist the temptation to drive off the bridge while Kojo Nnamdi gently talks you out of it by reminding you about "community" aka "zoning boards."

Boo hoo hoo, I miss the funky stylings of black people firing off handguns in McDonald's and smoking crack a couple blocks down from the White House. The murder rate pre-gentrification had a lot more flavor, you know?

DC for the vast majority of its history was about 70% white. The riots and crack feuds of squabbling negroes briefly damaged the city's demographics during the late half of the 20th century, so now we're correcting a very recent social anomaly by whatever means we have available

Fuck go go and Fat Trel. I shit on go go. Black people turned the entire nation's capitol into an open air trashcan. Long live Starbucks. Long live the Pumpkin Spice Latte.

Alright fellas (and ladies), I'm the guy who organized the last two DC meetups last fall/winter.

I'm down to do another one, each time there was about 4-5 people. Several of the people from the last ones are no longer living in the area so if we want to do one with a decent crowd we should pick a day in 2 or 3 weeks and then post about it every few days so everyone in the area has a chance to see it. Both times we met at Russia House in Dupont which was decent enough other than the too loud music and overpriced beer. If anyone else has good suggestions for a different meetup spot I'm down.

I still have the same email dclitmeetup@gmail.com.

Yeah, I would definitely plan for a weekend evening, that's what we did before. 3 weeks seems like enough time for everyone to see it on /lit/ and decide if they wanna go. One evening around Fri the 25th and Sun the 27th we could meet somewhere in DC around 6-8pm or earlier if people want. We previously would meet around 7-8 and all get beer together which had a nice feel but the Boston people seem to have been meeting at a cafe during the day which could work too.

I guess we can just keep bumping this thread and if anyone who lives in the area wants to go they can just reply to this post stating their intent to go. If we get enough people that it looks like it won't be a waste of time we can go ahead with the meetup.

Also, I read and write for 4 hours a day on top of my rigorous studies, exercise regularly, and have experienced sexual intercourse with as many as two (2) different girls

Moving to a new place arbitrarily and by yourself is not an essy thing to do. Ive been gone 7 months and am still adjusting. Make sure you have a good 5 or 6 grand set aside and that you do plenty of research if you want things to go smoothly. Then again I arrived off of the highway with 5 grand in credit card debt and managed to get a job and an apartment despite no college degree and a surprisingly tough housing market. You can break all the rules if you're smart and willing to put up with discomfort (like doing a week of overtime while living in a van).

Inevitably one finds when they leave a place that the place wasnt so much the problem as your own self, which you have to take with you wherever you go.

Theres a honeymoon period and then you start missing friends/family, especially around the holidays (none of this was a surprise to me, its not my first time trying to escape). It helps having some contacts on the ground or a group you can network with to help settle in (a church, AA, an outdoors club, whatever).

Its still a huge relief to be away from that place, and Im operating on the hope that, in time, ill form the kind of relationships that I currently miss.

true, although I wouldn't discount environmental effect on well-being (at least for myself) and at this point I know that major metropolitan areas don't do a thing for me. Solid advice, thankfully I have a decent amount saved & I'm hoping to find a place and be out of here by the year's end.
