>aunt is going down the DMT rabbit hole and won't shut up about "spiritual paradigms" and "higher levels of consciousness".
What book should I get her this Christmas?

>> No.12260604

>>12260591
Get her some eastern texts so she actually has something to work with and might gain so wisdom out of it instead of repeating joe rogan talking point, taking psychedelics has a reputation for making people more interested in or more receptive to that subject. Some entry level are Dhammapada, Tao Te Ching and to a lesser extent the Bhagavad Gita.

>> No.12260658

>Dhammapada
>Tao Te Ching
Maybe if you want her to be a Californian Buddhist or Weeaboo. Gita is alright though as long as it isn't the "As It Is" translation.
>>12260591
I would suggest the following:

The Zhuangzhi
The Perennial Philosophy - Huxley
The Essential Rene Guenon
The Upanishads
Paths of Transcendence - Reza Shah-Kezemi
The Sacred and the Profane - Mircea Eliade

Being a spritual Joe-Rogan-dmt-weed-bhuddism-guy is pretty cringe, but being a staunch realist like >>12260757 is pretty cringe too.

Give her some existential philosophers, Nietzsche, and Hegel if you want her to snap out of it, but if you want her to just keep going at it while being informed give her some basic texts on Daoism, bhuddism, confuscianism, etc. Terrence McKenna and Alan Watts are good also.

If she wants fiction then give her the Bhagavad Gita or Siddhartha.

I was the one who posted >>12260658. The reason why I suggested Zhuangzhi over TTC is because The Zhuangzhi explains Taoist concepts in short stories whereas the TTC is purposely written to be cryptic without any context. Also, reading Z first makes reading TTC much easier because now you have a much better grasp of Taoism and come to a more correct interpretation of the text.

>>12264001
>The Tao Te Ching is very short, and provides the basic concepts
It does, but it doesn't provide any context, which is how we end up with several different commentaries and interpretations, especially the kind where new age hacks try reinterpret the Tao Te Ching to make it applicable for modern living. Besides, most scholars agree the Zhuangzhi is the more important text of the two, yet most people in the west are completely unaware of its existence. Don't get me wrong, they are both great works on Taoism, but the Zhuangzhi should take precedence.

I guess thousands of years of recorded human are all lies. Surely you, a dude sitting on his sofa eating Cheetos is more enlightened than our human ancestors who all have detailed spiritual experiences in their culture. Or maybe it's that your brain has taken such a hit from years of high fructose corn syrup and fluoride that you can no longer receive spiritual phenomena, and are basically a walking flesh body with only 5 senses. Sad that the word degenerate is so overused because the effect of the word is so true. Your brain has degenerated after generations to block out spiritual phenomena. It's not that it's all a big lie, it's that you're just not experiencing it. Sad.
