Can any of you guys recommend me some good Fantasy audiobooks?

I like listening to audiobooks while falling asleep, so these things are important to me:
>soft voiced narrator, but not super dull
>the story shouldn't be so complicated that if I nod off for a bit while listening I won't understand anything anymore

I liked the audio books of Eli Monpress, Kingkiller and Riyria.
If anyone could recommend something like that both/either in terms of book and/or narrator that would just be grand

This is fairly accurate but I disagree that Heretics is not worth reading. Also the Road to Dune is interesting and includes notes from Frank Herbert, cut chapters, and a short story based on a earlier vision of the Dune universe which is actually quite interesting.
But yeah throw all the freakquels that his son and Anderson wrote in the incinerator, especially Sandworms and Hunters of Dune. What a way to shit on his father's legacy.

>“Valrissa!” Aengelas screamed. “Valrissssaa!” Holding her by the throat, the thing languorously picked her clothes away, like the skin of a rotten peach. As her breasts fell free with soft-pink nipples, a sheet of sunlight flickered across the horizon and illuminated her lithe curves . . . But the hunger that held her from behind remained shadowy—like glistening smoke.

>Animal violence overcame Aengelas, and he strained at his leash and gagged inarticulate fury.

>And a husky voice in his soul said: We are a race of lovers, manling.

>“Pleaaassee!” Aengelas wept. “I don’t knoooowww . . .” The thing’s free hand traced a thread of blood between her legs across the plane of her shuddering belly. Valrissa’s eyes regarded Aengelas, thick with something impossible. She moaned and parted hanging legs to greet the abomination’s hand. A race of lovers . . .

>“I don’t know! I don’t! I don’t! Pleaase stop! Pleaasse!” The thing screeched like a thousand falcons as it plunged into her. Glass thunder. Shivering sky.

>She bent back her head, her face contracted in pain and bliss. She convulsed and groaned, arched to meet the creature’s thrusts. And when she climaxed, Aengelas crumpled, grasped his head between his hands, beat his face against the turf. The cold felt good against his broken lips.

>With an inhuman gasp, the thing pressed its bruised prick up across her stomach and washed her sunlit breasts with black seed. Another thunderous screech, woven by the thin human wail of a woman.

>And again it asked the question.

>I don’t know . . .

>These things make you weak, it said, tossing her like a sack to cold grasses. With a look, it gave her to the Sranc—to their licentious fury. Once again, it asked the question.

>The abomination then gave his weeping son—sweet, innocent Bengulla—to the Sranc, and once again asked the question.

>I don’t know what you mean . . .

>And when the Sranc made a womb of Aengelas himself, it asked—with each raper’s thrust, it asked . . .

>Until the gagging shrieks of his wife and child became the question. Until his own deranged howls became the question . . .

>His wife and child were dead. Sacks of penetrated flesh with faces that he loved, and still . . . they did things

I started Wheel of time despite all warnings, actually enjoying it a lot. Don't care if it gets boring later, I can drop things without looking back if I can't stand them anymore. Already better than most things I've read from the genre, I like character driven stories and that's what the focus seems to be so far, hope that keeps up.

Also I'm pretty sure Nynaeve is the best girl, don't know why people complain about how she is early on. An angry teen girl who goes around with a bat as some kind of village healer is hilarious, I laugh every time she's referred to as "The Wisdom". At least it feels like Jordan knows what he's doing when writing "annoying" characters, it's not the kind of annoying where everyone is agreeing with them or they're supposed to be in the right, totally ok with that if the writer is conscious of it.

Not him but Cold Allies by Patricia Anthony is an unexpectedly good read. It's about first contact in a 1990s WWIII where the Arab world has united to invade Europe with aging Soviet tanks, and nobody can really fight back because nobody else has oil, and global warming is devastating them anyway. It has I think 5-6 viewpoints across the war in Europe and in a US where the Great Plains are an actual desert, and with a fighter pilot who's been abducted by aliens who don't understand enough to talk to him.

The idea of the war is pretty dumb but it's made up for by the intensity of the battle sequences, which often switch to the loser's viewpoint. The highlight character is an ex-NEET remotely operating a halftrack mecha, kind of a prescient character in his relationship to reality, his fervent desire to escape the easy life in front of a screen coupled with his addiction to it. There are some absolutely chilling scenes with nerve gas, something too many authors forget is straight horror. The ending doesn't come together that well but it's a great ride.

it happens all the time. The author took tones from japanese web novels and made it their own thing, it's a very western style novel though when I read it on royalroad. If you want to see more of weeb-westerns crosses, royalroad is basically that in a nutshell.

>>12239405
>Weeb novels have an elaborate and extensive set of conventions you have to follow, and various things you have to avoid
Japanese troupes, japanese audience, japanese language. If the audience changes so to does the content change. I've read royalroad stories that mimic the 'prose style' of light novels and they get a lot of attention, some even sell. It's a bigger market than you think, but selling to teenagers/weeb readers isn't as easy as you think it is.

I get the impression that nobody reads these though. People who want to read something western aren't interested in weebshit, and people who want weebshit aren't interested in faux-weeb imitations. Maybe I'm wrong, but at least it's definitely not a popular style compared to its inspirations.
>Japanese troupes, japanese audience, japanese language.
It's more than just that, for whatever reason light novels are significantly more monolithic than manga for example. They're overwhelmingly aimed at high school boys with social difficulties who want stories involving a self insertable main character, tons of female characters, and only non-threatening male characters if even any main male characters at all. This is the classic weeb novel, though there are of course exceptions.

Basically just meant the main conflict of the series and the villains themselves are seriously lacking. Obviously intentional on Jordan's part to have all the evil dudes be so weak, petty and contentious but at the same time I don't really get the why of it. There's a bunch of particular stuff I could list off but main point is that something is seriously wrong with your plot when the world corrupting evil God faction feels like less of a threat than the we wuz Hawkwing niggers. Coulda maybe been saved thematically if the confrontation between Rand and Shaitan had been different but instead all we got is cookie cutter shit that actually made no sense given the very asymmetrical way the Good/Evil dichotomy was set up in the WoT universe.

I could see that being a thing in the future, the big bad in the first book cowers at the start of it before the old Dragon and does seem like a petty coward behind all the power, am actually expecting someone else to be the "main villain" of the series if there is one, or at least most of the conflict to come from the human element like darkfriends or third parties or something. He's fine so far since the main characters are helpless farm boys and girls but I could see that getting kind of one sided later on if they start shooting lightning everywhere. But as I said I don't really mind dropping it if ever gets too boring, the characters and the action set pieces have been cool so far, I don't care about the overarching story of the world that much.

Why do you even stay here when you don't read anything written in the last 50 years? And I wouldn't say LOTR goes very in-depth in the aspect of philosophy, it's just very catholic, the other qualities stand out way more.

I never said there was one axis either, you latched to one sentence out of context from a chain of posts because it triggered your autism, it was in reply to a post that talked about wheel of time "going nowhere thematically, philosophically", which he later clarified in a way that made more sense and was just talking about the villains being weak. The philosophy involved being good can elevate a story for sure, but that's certainly not the focus in most of what this thread talks about, which last I checked was shitty patreon harem fantasy. But when you call most of the genre basic entertainment pseuds instantly crawl out to post exceptions that prove the rule, really makes you think.

When these books were first starting up they had to put trigger warnings at the bottom. So sjw had no excuse to go into the review section to spaz on how sexist and triggered the author made them.
If some sjw did still go, other people would pile on them and point out that there was a disclaimer.

Recently there was a Daniel Black book 1 review where an obvious feminist was talking about not finishing the book, but that the author was sexualizing wamen as walking sextoys. She got destroyed in her comment section. When you looked at her read books you see she likes a woman who sexualizes men, and see them as walking sextoys. After she was piled on she deleted all the comments. Ugly man looking bitch.

does audible limit you in any way? i mean i make a backup of anything i read on audible anyways but not being able to listen to what i want for 10 bucks seems shitty. or is it like free bonus points you can use to permanently get some audiobook for free?

Vibrator is, in addition to a read bait title, a reference to the idea that we all resonate at different frequencies which is why most end up normal while some become occasional bulimic-alcoholic fuck toys and some waste their lives on Cantonese washboards discussing genre fiction. the land is constantly quoted for different things to the detriment of the litrpg genre.
first off the book is horribly written and has popculture references galore. at one point the mc runs around shouting out "bazinga". 2/3 of the books are pretty much spreadsheets to boot. thats only a small part of issues of the books though. then there is the author. he is the sort of guy that uses dmca takedowns and sicks lawyers on bad reviews. at one point tried to trademark "litrpg" and generally refers to himself as the father of the litrpg genre.
theres plenty of reason to hate the books and the author. the land books arent really a reflection of the litrpg genre as a whole. they vary widely and most fiction that falls under that umbrella-term is more game-lit than litrpg. its basically gamelike settings but without the spreadsheets and only sporadic use of numbers and stats if any at all.
its basically the github syndrome if you are familiar with software development. github has such a huge presence that people thing git = github. eleron kong basically did that for the litrpg genre so he has a lot of presence and people think that the land is what all litrpgs are like.

have some knights working out for your pleasure.
