Where to begin lads?

I skimmed The Odyssey in high school but I'm looking to reread, starting with the Iliad.

What is /lit/s definitive book on Greek mythology and author(s) for the Iliad and Odyssey? I still possess my book for hs; it was translated by Robert Fagles.

If you google /lit/ guide Greeks you'll find some. I personally just started reading about the Greeks. So far I've read Mythology by Edith Hamilton (a really good and brief description of pretty much all significant myths) and now I'm reading Brief History of Ancient Greece Politics Society and Culture. Both books have been a really good foundation for Ancient Greece and I feel like I could tackle Homer much easier. Next up for my is The First Poets so that I can have an understanding specifically of them, it doesn't seem like that interesting of a read but I'll see how it goes.

I do and I must say, it is pretty based (and a touch redpilled)

Read Plutarchs lives
It's an enjoyable more personal read as well as being very informative about the periods these people lived
