I read daily, sometimes two or three books and a couple science articles or journals.

I just don't see any need anymore to attempt to validate my taste in books or my perspectives. For the longest time I came to /b/ to shitpost and /lit/ to learn. Eventually I became engrossed in trying to convince /b/tards I'm not a newfag and /lit/fags I'm well-read and moderately intelligent.

Took a while to realize even if any of you anons actually, honestly gave a fuck what another anon reads, there's 4-5 other anons shitposting maymays, pop culture references, or 2smrt4u posturing.

Except for odd posts like this, it came down to lurk or leave.

>Tried plebbit for a bit, and while the community is more active in a pursuit of camaraderie, on average, the groupthink is unbelievable and the atmosphere screams of mediocrity and cynical 20-somethings who don't have a grip on their life but are more or less average.

And as far as I've found...
>Nearly every online community ends up like 4chan.
Idk about you anons but I don't care enough to deal with politicking and bullshitters amassing virtual credibility to win pointless online arguments. In the brutal light of truth, we're all children anyhow... might as well accept you like what you like, and learn to expand your tastes.

Don't expect more than people can offer you and you won't be disappointed. At the cost of the absence of a crap filter, you get the benefits of truly anonymous communication, which I at least think is amazing. People aren't afraid to say the stupid things they think when their reputation isn't on the line, and if you ignore the garbage you get a kind of authenticity you won't find anywhere except with your closest friends. And you'll never be closest friends with even a fraction of the number of people you find here.

I generally might agree, I prefer a girl to have more spark, but in Rei's case, despite her supposed to be so blank, her portrayal reads as more sexily dreamy to me. It's partly her appearance and the sound of the voice actress, but also there's a bit of cuteness / comicalness to her sentiments and responses.

>> No.12229955

>>12229919
On one hand, I second this. The bratty attitude is hilarious and childish. And when you think of the kind of mentality necessary for such a personality, you realize it's a child with narrow breadth of life experience.

Otoh, that kind of firebrand personality in a woman is what keeps men on their toes. In a real woman, if it were a longer term thing, there'd have to be some balance -- although in a limited medium like animated storytelling it's meant to be more characterization.

>>12229909
Agreed for the blue-haired woman, as a woman with more than 2 dimensions.

>If irl, I'd pick Rei over the others. She'd easily be most interested, I think, in learning and reading, and would be an all right gal to relax with in a hammock or by a fire.

What I mean is comparing 4chan anonymity to a place like reddit or facebook. There is some posturing and artificiality here but I get the sense that nobody is really that serious about it, precisely because you don't gain much of anything from it on an anonymous forum. Maybe I'm deluding myself about that, but at the very least you can see a clear difference with reddit for example. People are very serious about the posturing there.

>The truth is, I have no emotional attachment to Rei at all.
>In the midst of making Eva, I suddenly realized that I had forgotten her. Her very existence. For example, in episode seven, I remembered and added one shot with Rei. I had no attachment to her at all. I think that was okay, because in episode eight, she didn't appear. Not even in a single shot.
>Episode 6 was too early.
>At the end Rei says "I don't know what to do," and Shinji says, "I think you should smile," and Rei smiles. ... Afterwards, when I thought about it, I cursed. In short, if she and Shinji completely "communicated" there, then isn't she over with? At that moment, Rei, for me, was finished.

It is the hallmark sign of a new, transient class of 4channer. Whereas many users of 4chan only come here for their particular interest—literature, anime, fitness, video games—with the chan-culture twist, the particular interest of this new class is 4chan itself. While the particular board users will cross-board along the lines of the natural comorbidity of interests, say: /lit/–/his/, /fa/–/soc/, /co/–/tv/, ect. they will generally stay within the peripheries of their experience. This is not the case with this new class; they could be considered professional cross-boarders, as, having no particular interest but 4chan itself, they are not at home or confined by any board or subject, and as such drift across all boards like a meme-miasma, spreading sickness and low-quality posting. As such they do not develop a board culture, but a cross-board culture. This causes them to develop a universal language, which this invariably means a compound super-structure of "memes." This universal language circumvents one of the core issues that this new class faces—having no interest in any particular board, they cannot properly engage with the content of any board. To amend this problem, they will engage their universal language of shitposting, making a superficial thread which is merely a slightly adjusted template version of the same meme. They are searching for the posts which play to the stereotype of 4chan that they hold: NEET/incel-posting, sick burns, ironic posting, ect. They will then engage with these by posting their universal language or "based and redpilled" or "cringe and bluepilled" or "yikes" or whatever is currently in fashion. These replies are essentially meaningless, but stoke a feeling of engagement within this new class, and help mark out the ebin posts for their compatriots. This new class is constantly growing and can be felt on every corner of 4chan, are especially prevalent in boards like /pol/ and /tv/, and replace any actual discussion of the topic at hand with twitter bait threads, dumb youtube videos, meme threads, e-celebs, "ironic" dumb-posting—basically topics which anyone can engage with no investment and are part of the mosaic identity of this new class (Peterson, Feminism, "onions," Jannies, NPC, cringe, ect., topics which pertain to no board in particular). They are also the most likely to use frogs, wojacks, and other highly repeatable images. In fact, this very thread is a perfect example of this new class at work. Due to the political-economy of posting they will always be able to outpace, outpost, and overrun any but the largest boards.

I agree if one is taking what the creator believes about their own work sidelong to what they, the individual partaking in the creation as an end-product, interprets.

>E.g. - HP is decent for what it is, magical realism YA, and Rowling's perspective is interesting. She's also a dumbshit chihuahua barking up the SJW/alt-left tree for virtual brownie points.
Resultant, I'm less inclined to ever deal with her, her primary series' works, or the corps pushing that bs to the public sphere. Alternative works, like Galbraith's, are judged separately... at least until she finds a way to muck that up. Same kind of thing with Anno.

He's a'ight for what he's done, but he's also a dumbshit whose primary objective was sales and secondary objective was a worthwhile creation. I can appreciate putting in biblical references to seem like consciously-chosen and deliberate allusion, metaphor, or some kind of allegorical artistic statement when the alternative end of the shtick for "deeper meaning" is GRRM taking decades and likely never finishing his primary work.

>Would I, personally, shill out? Probably not, although I may well sink into obscurity for it. I'm willing to accept that risk and Brandon Sanderson through it, for the love of creating.

But the latter gives me a smug sense of superiority over my "plebeian" peers, even though the end result of both activities is in essence the same. 4chan satiaties my addiction for stimulation through information. I am addicted to having an amount of information being fed to my mind, an amount that twenty or thirty years ago would have been inconceivable. This amount of exposure changes the way I think, how I approach and process the world, and what my will drives me towards. If you want to be well read, if you want to become a better writer, or just want to live well, stop spending so much time on 4chan. Stop spending hours of you life in a numb state absorbing information without critical thought. Sollst entbehren.
