What's your opinion on the 'Great But Severely Overrated By Redditors' pentalogy?

Watchmen and 1984 are the only ones that meet the overrated criteria.

OoT and Ghibli (Miyazaki at least) are pretty much legendary.

Beatles can eat a fat cunt though.

Have you tried playing that shit recently? It hasn't aged well.

>> No.12092607

In the context of pop music, the Beatles are as genuinely great as it's possible to be. You can't really overrate them, any more than you can overrate the influence of Shakespeare on drama. 1984 is good but overrated. Who gives a fuck about comics or games?

I think OOT aged well for what it is/was.
The story and the puzzle designs are timelessly solid.
A more admirable work than the pure density of ff7 which many a pleb might see as a sign of merit, but given the medium is actually a weakness

There were plenty of other pop bands of their era who produced music at a comparable standard or better than The Beatles. The only reason they are considered 'great' is because they just happened to become insanely popular. They were the first pop band to achieve 'superstardom', but I really doubt it was because their music stood head and shoulders over all others.

Enjoy Watchmen for the craft and 1984 for the scenario. Both of their plots are pretty average. Wouldn’t call them overrated personally

Watchmen is unironically brilliant. I think it elevated superhero comic books to an art form unmatched before or since. I can pick it up and still discover new ideas, little visual motifs, thematic parallels, etc.

1984 used to be my favorite book in high school and I still think it's great, but on on a more objective level it probably isn't up there as one of the all-time greats. Orwell had some great ideas and the book sparked my love for literature with his emphasis on the power language has over thought.

OoT is great for the time but hasn't aged all that well. MM is probably better.

Ghibli is a studio so I can't really make an evaluation on their entire filmography. Their animation is consistently fantastic from what I've seen.

The Beatles' influence on pop culture is undeniable, and not just because they were popular. Their songwriting and especially production is top-notch. I wouldn't call them one of my favorite bands or anything close to that. They might be overrated by sheer virtue of being so incredibly popular, though.

I feel like games either have to lean hard into mechanics or story in order to have any longevity. Games that try to split the difference tend to fail. Idk, not a hard and fast rule I guess.

Tech and art design plays into this too. A Link to the Past has aged fairly well because it looks pretty and OOT, like most games of its era, hasn't aged so well mostly because it is so fucking ugly.

OOT is a great example of the distinction between Important and Great.

In my opinion
>Watchmen
Haven't read a lot of their comics, so I can't have a full opinion on that, but from I can gather, it's a pretty nice comic

>1984
Great book, liked the dystopian ambient; not the best one on the genre but still a nice expirience

>OoT
Nice game, though I'll admit that some of the stuff, like the mechanics, didn't aged that well

>Studio Ghibli
Loved the animation on their movies. Storyline is decent enough, nothing too much out of the ordinary

>Beatles
While I enjoy their music, I don't think they're the greatest band of all time and some of their stuff is kind of overrrated. I have my favorite bands based on the genre they tend to play, so I wouldn't be able to tell you which is the one out of all
