Has anybody here tried writing stand up? What was the experience like?
I have a lot of respect for well written comedy and as a bit of an exercise I would like to try writing some but I'm not sure where to start, honestly.
Enough about me, though, stand up/comedy general.

As far as writing goes, Mitch Hedberg is an absolute genius. Writing one line jokes has got to be some of the most difficult shit on the planet.
This is a bump but also my opinion

Ive done one or two open mics. Not sure what advice I can give besides take note of everything that comes to mind. Seriously, dont let even the shit jokes slip your mind or you'll eventually regret it. Besides that there's not much to teach really about being funny. A good starting pointbif youre struggling to come up with 5 minutes is to mimic the style of your favorite comic. Not the jokes themselves or even the themes or content, but just the way the comic does his bits. Is he the type of dude who tella stories with his hands? Mimic that. Is he a monotone guy with abrupt and unexpected punchlines like Tom Segura? Copy that. Do it and mix it up until you find a style that you're comfortable with. Godspeed friend, always makes me happy to hear someone new wants to take part in this goofy ass art.
