Just finished both the Iron Dragon's Daughter and Bones of the Earth by Swanwick. Really enjoyed the themes of predistination and tone. Other than books by Swanwick, are there any more novels with this same sort of feel?

YA has become a catch-all term for anything deemed not good enough to be marketed in their parent genre. Science fiction that is not too sciency, badly written fantasy, whatever other "urban" crap with half vampires in leather get's floated and so on.
It used to be that the genre was about plucky young adults (or infantile adults by the way they were written) but those books are a minority now.
Generally it's the perfect fare for the horribly over-worked, medicated and increasingly infantile public that simply does not have time for anything deeper.

There are two ways of defining YA. One is that the authorial and publisher's intent is known, and that the target audience is young adults primarily.

The other is the more nebulous wherein you might get confused. Don't forget about how if the protag is a girl they also have to choose between Prince Perfect and Badd Boyy, in a love triangle sure to generate drama. Chances are whoever they choose, the other one will betray The Rebels only to eventually sacrifice themselves to save the heroine.

Accelerando is Stross's best work. Peak Stross, you might say. Ultimately he's quite talented but occasionally engages in hackery and often can't keep his retarded politics out of his writing.

Accelerando is overall good with some flashes of real skill (Max starting out the story as this bleeding-edge fringe character and ending as a basically an old man telling the kids to get off his lawn without actually changing at all).

Stross's thoughts on the relationship between Matrioshka brains, finance capitalism, and the incentives against interstellar expansion were also interesting and as far as I can tell original, although not fleshed out enough.
